This should be awesome on the big screen!

I know there have been screenings the past week or so, but I haven't seen reviews for the DC yet. It will be a fun experience to finally see one of my favorites on the big screen.

What are the extra scenes?

I was really disappointed that the release was scaled back to about 350 theaters.

Which basically means I won't get to see it where I live.

Damnit, I was looking forward to it. Doesn't look like I'll be able to see it now.

Try Fandango.com It already has listings for my area. Its even playing in a DLP digital theater! That should look and sound terrific.

I saw it last night. It looks and sounds amazing. It was a promotional screening for a local radio station. Sadly only about 50-75 people were there. They gave away posters for the rerelease.

The movie is still great, but seems like a whole new film. Similar to Blade Runner DC. The oddest part of the movie was all the laughs it got. Chestburster scene got the loudest laugh. Strange that they promote this movie as the scariest movie, when it is actually tame to most audience members (even a few kids that were with their parents didn't seem dazed by it).

When this movie was released back in '79 -IT WAS- scary. Even the TV commercials freaked folks out. Not seeing the Alien until the end had the same effect as not realling seeing the shark in JAWS. It was new kind of Sci-fi/Horror. I still remember an older kid telling a buch of us about the movie back in '79 and how much it blew our minds.

As fas as the Chestbuster scene, it was so brilliant and shocking at the time it has become part of "Pop Culture". Everyone has seen it, or copied it in their movies. The fact that folks laughed just proves it.

I was also scared by this in '79.

I was simply stating how the audience reacted to the film. Also it shows that Fox may be overestimating the scare factor to this movie (putting on the posters and ads that this is the scariest movie ever). I guess Fox just needed to hype this movie in the only way they know how (scariest). I think Alien is one of the best Sci-fi movies ever made. Maybe they should have pushed in that direction. It does have a lot to do with all the various copies of this movie. I was just stating that the audience that saw it the other night was simply not scared.

Just an observation, not meant to cut the film down. Enjoy the film! Actually, the laughter was kind of distracting when I saw it.

I'm going to check this out Wednesday.

I think I'll give the original a watch tonight or tomorrow to "refresh" myself and see if I can notice the cahnges.

Different audiences react differently... I saw Dead Calm in the theater and everyone was laughing when the dog got killed... that doesn't mean it was a funny scene - I saw it with a group of friends a few years later and they were all riveted.

Alien is still a pretty scary movie, and I'm sure different audiences are gonna have different reactions to it. I remember seeing Pet Semetary in the theater which was full of mostly high-school kids and younger... it was a noisy crowd that was screaming at every little thing... I don't think that movie was all that scary even, but being among that crowd kinda made it scary.

Ebert has written a great movies review on Alien last Sunday, but it is not a review of the directors cut. Personally I prefer Aliens over Alien, but they are both good movies in their own right.

I'm sorry dude I was just trying to get laugh out of you.

the audience I saw it with, had a ball, all the jolts had the appropriate reactions, screaming followed by laughter, the audience (as well as myself) really had a great time.

The nimrod though behind me, was being totally assholish and stating every surprise just before they happened onscreen to his girlfriend.

I will be seeing this Thursday night at Midnight which is Technically Friday but anyway its an employee screening of the movie which means about 10 people in the theater, its going to be so cool

Well I did love Alien the first time I saw it, but I too am waiting for reviews to see if the film is still good.

I saw this with a respectful audience. Silence was golden. As for shocking...well, I've been to many current horror films and nobody screams anymore.
ALIEN, however, does everything right. The new films...don't.

from what I can tell Scott has tightened up the pacing at the beginning, and . Other than that the film is still a classic Sc-fi/horror film.

Does anyone think it was strange that Scott added the Alien hitting the cat cage?

I always thought that Scott was implying (especially with the absence of the cocoon scene) that the Alien was going to use the cat in somefashion (i.e. a sequel) I have a feeling that is why he cut it differently for this cut.

I can't say thats true here. I went to a late showing of Texas Chainsaw Massacre a week and a half ago. There was plenty of screaming, but only from several ladies there.

I too like Aliens better but both movies are so different from each other I class Aliens as scifi/action whereas Alien was scifi/horror.

And I can't wait to see Alien again.

Aw sweet, one of the theatres here is playing this. I cannot wait. . .I've never seen the film before, just looking at the trailer gives me the creeps.

theneobez.. you'll love it. It's one of the very few horror films that really scares me. Everything that Ebert says about the payoff from the buildup of atmosphere describes this movie perfectly.

Too bad no one around here is playing it. I really want to see this film on the big screen.
