Arnol'd cameo symbolic?

I just saw the Rundown. Arnold walks out of a club, past the entering Rock and says "good luck". The cameo had nothing to do with the plot whatsoever. The line itself wasn't needed so it was a cameo for cameo's sake.

Was this Arnold's way of passing the torch of action hero status to the younger generation hero The Rock? He knew he was getting too old for action roles and getting into politics. So this was his exit and telling the new guy just getting into the movies good luck. Even Arnold exiting while the Rock entering was symbolic. Or am I just putting too much thought into it.

On a side note, I am glad the Rock is getting into action movies. We need more big guys in kick butt action roles (now that Arnold and Stallone are not going to be in the action roles much anymore). Guys that you just look at and know they will kick the crap out of anyone in the room. Action movies nowadays tend to have the skinny hero or the 'smart' hero. Screw that, guys that will kick the crap out of the bad guys is what real action movie should be about.

Chirst I hope not. No matter how hard Hollywood tries, Dwayne will not be the next big action star.

Resin, you're right on target concerning Arnold's cameo.

Ryo, how quickly you dismiss Johnson! I was quite surprised by how well he handled The Rundown.

I took it as a "passing of the torch" of sorts... and after the Rundown, I think The Rock could easily be the next big thing.... I was skeptical, but he really carried The Rundown and was terrific in it.

After seeing scorpion king I came to the conclusion that he would be the next action star of this generation. I am glad too because at least he can speak some good english.

Arnie passes the torch to Johnson. Two weeks later, Thurman slices Johnson in two and takes the torch for herself.

I was really impressed with The Rock in The Rundown. So much so that I have reconsidered why initial dismay at talk of him as the next Terminator.

As much as I like Kill Bill, there's no way Thurman is the next big time action star. Rock is taylor made for action films. Hopefully he wont screw it up by trying to become a 'real' actor.

He said "Good luck" because the Rock will need it. He won't get by on his acting ability, that is for sure.

Yeah- the scene was symbolic...

Dwayne Johnson will either be the next Arnold or the next Brian Bosworth (remember Stone Cold?)... only time will tell. He's already doing better than the Bos did.

You at least have to admit that there are very few people who can take what would normally be a corny one-liner and turn it into gold like Arnold did.

hey - I like arnold as much as the next guy, but let's face it - he's not much of an actor. So bringing up Rock's abilities as an actor is like bringing up how he's not a woman as a reason why he can't take over for Arnold.

Dang, I thought he meant good luck in getting through the airport without being shot, strip-searched, or held up for a day or 2.

Here's hoping Rocky does choose some good projects. He definately COULD be the next big action star. Acting? Well, he has tons of charisma, and if you've ever watched WWF you should know he can deliver one-liners with the best of them. I would say his acting talent is at par if not better than his elders, Stallone and Ahnold.

But the movies he's signing up for... I mean I hope the rumor of him being in Be Cool as a gay bouncer or something is false. Rock needs to do some balls to the walls action movie. R-Rated!!! I don't think Ahnold did a pg-13 action movie until...well...sixth day? (I'm not counting his comedies). The Rundown wasan excellent start for him (financially The Scorpian King was also). So here's hoping...I'm quite the fan of his so...

Yeah, Dwayne. Whatever you do don't play a gay guy. Look what it did to the career of poor Tom Hanks!!!

Actually i read about this. The director, The rock and arnold were having lunch one day offset and the director asked if arnold could do a walk on for them. Arnold liked the idea and said sure, Went back to the set and shot his walkon in one day and then arnold was out of there heh. So it was just a fun thing for arnold

You must not be a wrestling fan. The Rock does a great job with one liners on the mic. I don't see why delivering them on screen will be any different.

I thought Arnold said "Have fun" rather than "Good Luck." But I saw this on opening day and can't remember that scene that much.

On another note.. When asked who arnold thinks should take the reins from him in T4 since he doesn't do movies anymore (he promised he wouldn't if he was elected govenor) He supposedly suggested The Rock. Who may be in talks now for it

http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=16332

so maybe he just likes The Rock heh

The Rock has been playing one character for many years. Even if you dont want to admit it, Arnold has done many different types of characters in his movies.
