I thought the same thing about the Rogue Squadron books. Except for Wedge, you don't need any of the OT actors, and you still get plenty of space battles.

That's more than slightly off, since the order to kill Chewbacca came from Lucas himself.

As far as I'm concerned, the books are just as official as the movie, because any changes or new info has to be cleared with Lucas first.

All of you people who bash the new movies and claim they arent successful just need to look at box office returns. That is the only real measure of success in this world, despite all of your lofty goals of artistic merit. Money makes the world go round and Star Wars makes a whole boatload of it. This story doesnt end with Episode 3. I guarantee it will be made into more movies someday because they are a guaranteed $300 million return in the US theaters alone. Throw in worldwide and dvd and action figures and video games and it starts to get insane. Not to mention all the money it makes for Lucas' special effects ventures by showing off what they can do.

While I do agree with you about the money aspect, I have to point out that Ep2 grossed almost 130 million LESS than Ep1, and if Ep3 is just as bad as the previous two I'd expect to see another significant drop in box office receipts. It's been proven that if you turn out a crap movie then bad word of mouth can kill you(see Tomb Raider 2, Hulk, etc. for proof)As for them being made into more movies? I would say a definitive "no" as Lucas is the sole owner of the Star Wars properties, not 20'th Century Fox.

Empire Strikes Back grossed about 170 million less than the the first one and Return of the Jedi grossed more than Empire Strikes Back.

What about when he dies? Isn't is anything goes at that point?

That, and his stories get worse each time as well. While I cannot totally bash the PT, I will say that if time erodes on him like it did this time, a Sequel Trilogy might prove unbearable to watch.

Not exactly. It will be "whatever his inheritor says" goes. Inheritor of the rights to the Star Wars franchise, that is.

Are you talking about movies or life with the money statement? WIth movies, I think you are somewhat wrong, with life, I think you might be dead wrong.

I just hope you don't equate a movie's B.O. gross with its quality.

Clearly he changed his mind.
Um, no he didn't. Lucas always said one day he'd make the prequels. What he didn't want is to direct after Star Wars because it wore him out. So he got someone else to direct and write the screenplays for ESB and ROTJ.

Its not like Lucas had any sucess with non-SW projects. Just stick with what works.
Wow! You just knew someone would come in and make a stupid statement like that. Obviously you've never heard of THX1138, not a box office success, but a very good film. Or how about American Graffiti, which was a big success at the box office. A film that was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director for Lucas. Lucas also created Indiana Jones and it's characters, as well as wrote the stories.

[sarcasm]So no, he failed completely at other projects outside of Star Wars.[/sarcasm]

Hey, someone had to like if it made money.
Yeah, because we all know bad films that are hated by the majority make 310 million dollars.

By the way, Episodes 7-9 won't ever happen, so forget about them.

You quoted my comment and said "forget about ep 7-9"

I never stated they would. I have no hope that they will and realize they are far beyond lucas' plans to do so.

As for the films profit. Well I made the someone had to like them comment because it does seem like it was one of things where it's "cool" to bash them yet they still see them twice in the theater. it just seems like common sense.. if everyone hated it, then it wouldn't have made money.

i can see it now..... the empire is bigger than ever and doom is lurking over the rebels. luke needs an experienced pilot to take on the empire. han is working as a mechanic in his own dock and luke appears. han looks at him and says.... i know that look in your eye, I have seen that look before. luke say: han your the only one who can run through the empire. luke has a modernized millenium falcon already built up. it flys into hans dock. he just smiles at luke and says..... han: lets take them down for good this time!!!!!!

it could work in my eyes but all living actors must be aboard.

cgi needs to be thrown out the window, i dont like it and never will. the old way and props are the most convincing to me. atleast they have a realisim to me.

I heard about this and think it would be really cool but I don't think it will ever happen. It sounds to much like just another internet rumor. And with Speilbergs inflated ego I don't see him going back to this type of movie anytime soon.

If ( and that's a big "if" ) there's an Ep. 7-9 I'd like to see it in the hands of someone new. If Lucas' heart isn't in it then he's not going to turn out a good movie.

You should be more careful posting, or Lucas might actually go with this idea!

This would be awesome, but it will probably never happen.

I would have prefered a sequel trilogy to a prequel trilogy any day. Much better to get a new story you know nothing about, rather than a story in which you know what happens and are basically just getting the details IMO.
