Tarantino should record a commentary, and over the "House of Blue Leaves" sequence say:

The same commentary should be over both versions of the scene.

Hi everyone, quick report: I saw Kill Bill in Japan yesterday. IMO, this film does work better in this more violent version (or maybe I'm just a gorehound at heart ;) ). Anyway, here are the major differences:

- yes, as you already know, the entire fight scene at the end is in colour. It works better for me, really. Some of the action that was confusing to me in high contrast black and white is easier to see in colour. When Uma plucks the eyeball out of one of the Crazy 88s, instead of the scene switching to b&w, she shoves the eyeball into another yakuzas mouth and continues the fight. It seems like a bit more hacked off limbs are visible too. And at the end of the scene, there is a close up of Uma's eyes, but no eyeblink that signals the change back to colour in the US version

- the anime scene has a bit more violence, most notably, after O-ren kills the yakuza boss, there is a shot of his split open torso, showing his intestines inside

-in the GoGo flashback in the bar, when she slices open the sleazy guy, you dont just see blood, but also his intestines falling to the floor

-and of course there is the Sophie Fatale scene in the trunk.

There are probably other small differences but this is mostly what I noticed. Also, the Japanese sequences did not have English subtitles, so this might be an issue for some in the future, if importing the eventual Japanese DVD (but who knows, it may have English subs).

Anyway, it was great to see this version. :) Gotta go, I can explain more things when I come back from my trip if anyone has questions.

All I can say is that you are one lucky SOB!:p You got to see the movie in Japan among a Japanese audience, uncut AND on the big screen! Man...I really wish I was out there right now.

Let me ask you, what was the audience's reaction to the spoken Japanese dialog scenes by Uma and Lucy? I read on another forum that a guy saw it in Japan and the audience was laughin their ass off at how bad Uma and Lucy's Japanese accents were.

A combined 3 hour Uncut Uncensored Kill Bill on DVD

I finally was able to go see Kill Bill last night. A total of 6 people walked out of the movie (all during the anime scene). I, for one, loved it and thought it was nothing short of a masterpiece. QT is still as orgininal a filmmaker as he was back in '92. I can't wait for vol. 2!

Unfortunately there wasn't too much of an audience for it to have a noticable reaction. My wife and I saw an early afternoon showing and there might have been less than 20 people in the theatre. But afterwards I asked my (Japanese) wife about Uma's and Lucy's Japanese and she did say that they did not speak the language very well. :lol: She understood what they were saying in Japanese, but it sounded very strange to her ears. Julie Dreyfus on the other hand spoke flawless Japanese (I'm jealous!).

The coolest thing about seeing films in Japan is that you can buy some cool related stuff at the theatre before or after seeing the film. I picked up a really nice Kill Bill movie program and a poster. :)

At any rate, I'm sure that you guys will like this version.
