The Kill Bill Vol 1 Thread Part 2
|
Gee-- just like the movie.
|
I for one really enjoyed the movie as well. Its not a typical brain dead action movie, there is tention and some long scenes as well. My favorite scene was the GoGo fight. I'm with all of you in saying that I wish miramaxe and or the mpaa woiuld stop being pu$$y's and give us the full color version of the movie and not the black and white version.

Originally posted by Darren Garrison Gee-- just like the movie. I'm not bashing anybody who didn't like the movie, because I can certainly understand why some people wouldn't like it. However, I wonder if a portion of those who didn't like the movie didn't "get it". I think some people may be taking the movie a bit too seriously, because I think the intent of the movie is to pay homage to old school martial arts movies (as evidenced by the music and the "special effects". Clearly, Tarantino didn't make the movie to vault himself into the eyes of Oscar voters, he made it because he loves the genre. I also think you don't have to know anything about old school martial arts movies to truly enjoy this movie. Sure, it might help to understand the subtle (or not so subtle) nuances of the film, but it's definitely not required. I think some people may not be going into the movie with an open mind and are looking for Oscar-worthy drama and dialogue. If they are, they'll most likely be disappointed because that's not what the movie is about. I guess I'm in the minority of people who thought the black and white touch was really good. I didn't think it was a "cop-out" or that it took me out of the moment. I thought it was perfect. For those of you who are hell bent on watching that scene in color, I'm fairly confident that it'll be available in color on one of the DVD versions. If not, too bad for you. -ptth- Since I only saw this yesterday, I hesitate to list it in my top 10 films of all-time, especially since I've only seen it once. However, I haven't been this excited after seeing a movie in a long, long time. I certainly don't consider myself an expert critic or even well-versed in movie classics (as those in my E.T. thread will quickly point out), but I know what I like and what I don't like. The more I think about the movie, the more I want to put it into my top 10. I don't consider myself a Tarantino afficionado, but I can't say enough about this movie. The cinematography was nearly perfect (to me) and the music was awesome. Oh yeah, and the plot (or lack thereof, if you must), was fine. This isn't my favorite film ever (that honor belongs to The Shawshank Redemption), but I would call this the most "perfectly made" film I've ever seen. Take that for what it's worth. http://www.ameritech.net/users/dvdtalk/rome.gif |
Your post would have been sooo much better in B&W
|
Rypro - be glad we got as much as we did :D In the Japanese version there's a color version of the fight and we get to see what happened to Julie Dreyfus's character (including it happening.)
I hope this movie has some decent legs, it seems to be getting excellent word of mouth among the internet savvy, haven't spoken to anyone outside of that tho (my friends are also internet savvy so they don't count.) |
Repost from last thread:
Argh. Okay, I like The Rza and all, Wu-Tang represent.. but my favorite song in the movie is on the soundtrack with a friggin rap over it. :( :( :( Crap, I'd kill for a clean version of that. |
Ok, lets end this stupidity about MPAA and the Black and white. this thread should first and foremost clear it up.
If you claim to believe that the only reason the scene was in B&W to escape MPAA rating, state your case with Quotes and references as backing. If you are on the other side and say it was written in the script from the get go state your case with reference and backing. this madness about "$tupid MPAA with their Censorship mu$7 3ND" let the battle begin. :p |
I really think people are just letting the internet ruin thier ability to enjoy movies (or any hobby for that matter). People up in arms over 1 or 2 seconds of footage brtually "censored". Um, hello. Movie. Watch. Enjoy. People staring at dots, counting the people getting up to pee and getting online "GLORY BE!! I DONE SAW FIDDEEN PEOPLE WALK OUT ON KILL BILL!!".. I mean, whoa.. seriously? People whining about a scene in black and white, or that the blood looks like water.. come on this movie was a giant cartoon for crying out loud, how does the amount, color, or structual makeup of fake blood affect a movie where the herione comically claims ownership of her victim's limbs? |
THE DOTS!!! THEY RUIN IT ALL I TELLS YOU!!!
So all those who claim it was an Evil bad thing Forced on by Jackie and the MPAA, please state your case. Where is thy proof? |

the scene with the coma patient rapists made me sick ! just the thought of all of that hillbilly redneck semen inside Uma made me puke ! Just like the Zed scenes in Pulp ficiton. QT sure knows how to make distasteful totally unlikeable characters!

Vol 1 and 2 together will surely make a profit ?
i doubt one 3 hour film on it's own would have though |

I'll say it again. proof that the scene was never suppose to be B&W? two conflicting reports from all these threads. some folks say its in the script, others state that it was created that way for the MPAA.. either way, the director has a CHOICE to submit it or not. Should I say Clear Channel is a censor of music? No. bands have a choice to work with them and sign all those deals to get played. if they don't then they wont be able to get on the radio stations owned by clear channel. it's all a choice. Censorship is a matter of not having a choice.

Ok, I got this from the other thread about Kill Bill references. This confirms the fact that the black and white is a censorship tool if what the reviewer is saying is correct.
"I first saw Kill Bill a month before it opened. But what I saw was not the version that most Americans are going to see. In a screening for the Japanese media, I watched the uncut Asian version of the film, which literally wallowed in tons of blood and guts. In it, the Samurai sword-wielding Uma Thurman (as Bill's revenge-seeking heroine known only as "The Bride") cuts her enemies' heads off, butchers them limb from limb, and gouges out an eye ball. Even though Miramax has gone through the trouble of digitally tinting all the blood from red to black to appease the MPAA, the studio still seems worried that such violence could upset US critics. Although the screening was held in Los Angeles, no members of the American press were allowed to attend." http://japattack.com/japattack/film/killbill.html |

I'm looking for Official documents here. A script would do just fine stating black and white to be used or some more Official word about the change from u.s. to japan prints. not some random website from some fan. come on, i'm trying to put an end to this discussion about it and you bring in more rubbish. :p |

first off, Jack, calm down, dude. Just because you post every hour, doesnt mean everyone has as much free time as you. Now, from reports, like the one above, the fight scene was ALL in color, even late in post-production. And as another poster said, the blood looks very different in that BW scene than in the first scene. yeah, yeah, I know you want hard evidence, but I dont have that. I only have my opinion, in this case. what would cause him to change the color so late in post? artistic value?! why would the blood look so different from one scene to another? Now again, its just my opinion, but it seems clear to be a ratings thing. if it WAS artistic in nature, bad decision on his part. Maybe one of the Weinsteins pressured QT into it. They are spawns of Satan, you know. ;) Off this topic: why did the Bride follow Sofie for a little bit, then just take-off? I thought she was following her. |
I'd hardly call him a "random Interweb fan boy" going by his credentials here.
http://japattack.com/japattack/about/about_tomo.html Besides he does mention that no members of the American press were allowed to attend the screening that he went to which does account for something. |
Heyyyy....who do you guys think Sophie was talking to on the phone in the bathroom??? I've been told it's one of the Vega brothers?
|
so when is this Japanese version gonna make it's way to the web ?
