Originally posted by mdc3000 So you'd never seen ET... still haven't seen the Indy flicks, Jaws or Close Encounters... obviously not a huge Spielberg fan... but you really owe it to yourself to do the following... 1. run out right now and BUY Jaws (widescreen) and Close Encounters (2 disc SE) 2. Watch each film twice...you'll want to watch them more than that, but limit yourself to twice for now...so you can take time to realize how ****ing awesome they are. 3. On Oct. 21 go buy the Indy Trilogy on DVD... follow step 2 again. 4. Finally you can go back to watching whatever movies you've been watching for the last decade...although now that you've seen some of the most entertaining movies ever made, you might not be satisfied with modern movies ever again. But seriously, SEE THESE MOVIES... I always am in disbelief when I hear that people haven't seen these flicks... they are THAT GOOD...people haven't been lying to you...they are MUST SEE flicks... MATT sorry...a HUGE Spielberg fan....the above mentioned flicks are the reason I'm a film student who hopes to one day make movies... http://www.ameritech.net/users/dvdtalk/rome.gif |

I looked up Blade's DVDs on DVD Tracker and he has both Jaws and Close Encounter. Maybe he'll let me borrow them. :D

I just watched E.T. last night for the first time in probably 20 years.
One thing that I never understood as a kid and still couldn't quite figure out last night is why exactly did E.T. get sick all of a sudden? Also, what brought him back to life? Just the fact that his friends were entering the atmosphere? |

I liked every single one of those movies.

Looking over this thread again, I don't think i've ever seen so much excessive, extraneous bolding in my life...
|
Funny that this thread came back up cuz i was thinking lately that i hadnt seen ET in a long time and was wondering if i would still like it.
|
Huge Spielberg fan here...but...i have to say I've tried to get through Close Encounters several times and just can't. Bored to tears.
Had a friend who rented it recently who actually got through it and didn't like it. Just never understood the interest. That being said, I weep like a little baby when i see ET. I'll definitely be catching it at the Ziegfeld next month. |

It was BY FAR the coolest of the Spielberg flicks to me as a kid....Indiana Jones was FUN, but as a kid you felt the Close Encounters could really happen to you. |

You will also want to check out Spielberg's first big feature, "Duel". The film Joy Ride borrowed a bit from it.

See it again, just for kicks. My wife had not seen it until after we were married because "she didn't like 'alien' movies". But I forced her to see it (my old OLD vhs copy years ago) and it instantly became one of her favorite movies. My 8 year old daughter loves the movie, but hates to watch it because it makes her too sad. My boy, 4, just likes the contraption he makes (in fact, he wanted to get to my circular saw blade to build his phone) and always askes for reeses pieces (ah the power of marketing). These being said.....I'm throwing my vote in here to go for retro month... Jaws Duel Close Encounters All three raiders (not a big fan of the Temple of doom, but it is silly) In my opinion, DO NOT see Jaws 2, 3, 4, or any other shark themed movie. |
