I don't consider some of those as trilogys. I think of a trilogy as three films that were conceived of from the beginning and are more of a 3 act play vs. sequels that really have nothing to do with each other but a character or two.

I see where you're coming from but for our purposes here we're talking about any movie with 2 sequels.

There's always Kevin Smith's "Jersey Trilogy" that has gone over the 3-film limit.

I believe the base trilogy is supposed to be Clerks / Mallrats / Dogma.
