If you consider yourself as an Al Pacino fans, or as a mafia movie fans .. then try seeing those movies you mentioned asap.

I've seen Scarface, a long long time ago it doesn't stick in my memory. And the only Godfather I've seen is the third. But I am not feeling bad because of it, cause basically I'm just not into mafia movies.

It's not bad that you've never seen them. They're films, they're not your children or anything...

If you feel like watching them, watch them. No-one's making you sway one or the other.

Hmm, that one's tricky. Akira Kurasawa (SP?) was an incredibly influential and prolific director, not to mention how incredibly talented he was. Many modern filmmakers grew up watching his films, and a good few films you know might actually be BASED (totally, or in part) on Kurasawa's.

He's just a guy you're "supposed to know". Again, though - they're just films.

You meant to write Riefenstahl, didn't you?

And since we are all confessing:

Hello, my name is ___, I am a cinemaholic. It's been 3 days since I've watched an Art House film...

Just for clarity, Scarface isn't a mafia movie.

Probably the simplest, most straight forward post I've ever read.

BTW, it's not bad that you haven't seen them.

I had never heard of Kurosawa either, until I caught some of Yojimbo on a movie channel late one night about 3 years ago.

Now I own every one of his movies put out on DVD.

For those who keep saying "I don't like Mafia movies", these films aren't exactly niche films, where you need to like the theme to enjoy the movie. There is a lot more to the Godfather movies than just the fact that they're Mafia movies- they also contain fantastic writing, acting, cinematography, etc.

It's Ok. I just watched both Godfather I+II only a year ago, and waited till this week so I could watch Scarface in its OAR.

The Godfather movies are pretty good in their own right, but its nothing I'd want to subject myself to again (I get tired of overly-violent movies).

The Godfather movies are pretty mild in comparison to Scarface.
