I have no idea how good the film is actually going to be. However, I have seen the preview a few times, and each time the audience was howling with laughter. Not a good sign.

This movie looks awful. The only thing it even claims it has going for it is TOM CRUISE.

I have seen this trailer three times - it was severely mocked each showing. I will never see this film.

The movie does look awful, but I might give it a look. The director Edward Zwick seems to do well with historical dramas(see Glory, one of my favorite flicks)so it might be interesting, but I can only see having Tom Cruise star in a movie like this as a negative thing. I just don't think I'll be able to believe him as a samurai.

Guaranteed: Cruise will again do a "training montage" - complete with push-ups.

Like the mighty pointing finger of Harrison Ford, the push-up is Cruise's trademark.

That's what they said about Toshiro Mifune.

The problem with the trailer is that it doesn't covey the fact that Tom Cruise isn't a samurai in the film, he is an american military officer, but even then the trailer did leave me with a smirk on my face. And I had high hopes for this one.

I'm surprised at all of you people saying that the trailer sucked. I saw it a few times in the theater and thought it was good. Good enough for me to want to watch the movie. I never heard anyone laugh in the theater....and this in a place where Asians are a majority (Hawaii).

Looks like a great movie to me. For my sake, I hope I'm right.

Yup, me too. I think the trailer looks awesome. I love anything Samurai so I am sold already. Plus Cruise has just blown me away with his ability to grow as an actor, I think if anything he is VERY underrated as an actor. I think the one big mistake with the trailer, as someone else pointed out, is that it doesn't play up the fact that Cruise is NOT a samurai in the movie.

Plus, the poster is one of the coolest looking one-sheets of the past few years. I've had it framed in my apartment for months.

I thought it looked incredible. One of the films I'm looking forward to the most in the remaining months of 2003.

I didn't like the trailer... it didn't tell me the whole story.

I think the movie looks great. I haven't heard anyone laugh in the theatre when I saw the trailer. And frankly I could careless if anyone did. Because I know that general movie public = horrible taste.

I don't think the movie is by "Beat" Takeshi, I think he only stars in it & it's a remake of the famous Zatoichi franchise. And I'm looking forward to that much more than Last Samurai, but I find Takeshi being a samurai just as absurd as Cruise being in a Samurai movie.

As a big Tom Cruise fan, I'm really looking forward to seeing The Last Samurai. Cruise has been doing great stuff especially the last four years, so hopefully my expectations will not be let down.

Also I think the trailer is much more of a teaser, because they really do not show too much or have any dialogue.

Movie looks fantastic. The setting is beautiful, anything Samurai is intriguing to me at least, and I think Tom Cruise is a fantastic actor. Knowing what I know (that he isnt trying to be a Samurai) when I saw the trailer, I found it to be very satisfying. The music in the trailer is KILLER.

And for the person who has the one sheet, where did you get it? I've looked at all the major's for it, with no luck.

I was put off by some of the narration in the trailer, especially when it talks about 'honor' and 'warfare,' and since I'm currently serving- anytime I hear those two put together, I automatcally know the source is full of it.

I thought Cruise's trademark was running fast and hard. I haven't seen many movies where he isn't running:

The Firm (running fast in his business suit)(originally put The Client accidentally, mixing up my Grishom movies)
Far & Away (running fast in the snow)
Minority Report (running fast throughout the movie)
Jerry Maguire (sprinting to go home to Renee)
Vanilla Sky (running down empty streets)
Days of Thunder (racing Robert Duvall at end)
Mission Impossible (running out of breaking aquarium)
Interview with Vampire (running so fast we can't even see him)
Last Samurai (apparently running with his troops in the picture I saw)

Back on topic, I thought Last Samurai looked good too. Never heard anyone laugh. Were people laughing because they didn't buy Cruise as a samurai? Guess they could have explained in the trailer that he was an American soldier brought in to teach the Japanese more modern techniques. The director, Ed Zwick, has made some good movies and I'm really looking foward to seeing a big budget Samurai movie.

Check out the latest trailer.

It might give you a "page cannot be displayed" message, but just hit refresh and it should open up in the Media window.

I'm not sure where others have gotten theirs, but I got mine off Ebay a while back for a decent enough price. If I remember right there seemed to be quite a bit of them available on there. That's generally where I get most of the movie posters I hang on my walls. My Last Samurai poster is proudly displayed right between my Seabiscuit and my Fight Club posters.
