First impressions -- Looks to be the worst Coen brothers film.
Interesting, you pegged in the trailer which was my first thought leaving the theater tonight. They have some track record of success, and I'll need to let it settle before I call it the worst, but I simply can't believe they put this out. I should have known when very few of "their" actors were in this(Buschemi, McDormand, Goodman, Tuturo, etc). Did they bang this out for a quick buck, because there seemed to be non of their interpertive genius behind it. I'm sure they regret doing this over "Bad Santa", all things considered. It can't be much worse than this, and seems to really strike a chord as black comedy. I appreciate the destination this film eventually arrived at, salvaged the experience for me. The journey just wasn't worthwhile enough to get there.

About the worst thing I can say about it is, it seemed like someone trying to rip off a Coen brothers movie, between the Weezie Joe and the big send off from his keynote speech. Oh well, at least there is strong buzz on Fun with Dick and Jane.

I, for one, think it looks fantastic. Maybe the first mainstream Coen Bros. movie (not sure if that's a good thing though).
I finally watched this movie last night and by the looks of my post last year, I had my hopes up for this one. I didn't think it was anything spectacular and lacked all the trademark quirks that make Coen films treasures. They tried to go mainstream with this comedy and IMO, that was not a good thing. They should stick with what works and mainstream comedies are not it. Clooney and Zeta-Jones had a good time and I enjoyed watching them. Because of that, the movie was not bad, but definitely not one of the Coen's best.

I watched it last night for the first time, too. I was also disappointed. I thought it was OK, and Clooney and Zeta-Jones both did fine jobs, but there just wasn't that much going on for me to like. The pacing was off, the jokes weren't that funny, and I don't think they fleshed out the theme of the movie very well. I did enjoy the little Shakespeare asides - nice touch
