Re: Gremlins 3
Seems like a really bad idea for a movie, that will ultimately turn out really bad. God I hate 3D. Only movie I have seen that it improved and then only a little was Avatar.

Re: Gremlins 3
EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros has set Goosebumps scribe Carl Ellsworth to write Gremlins, the remake of the 1984 Joe Dante-directed film about the cuddly creature Gizmo who must not be fed after midnight or exposed to water…or else he spawns evil cousins who’ll tear apart your hometown. The memorable original black comedy was scripted by Christopher Columbus, who’ll produce this along with Steven Spielberg, an exec producer on the original. It’s not surprising that Warner Bros would reignite this, it was a small-budget film that made a fortune. I’d heard that Columbus might helm this, but studio insiders say that’s not in the cards at this point. The original was a cleverly dark Christmas tale that was too funny to be really scary. We’ll see how a new configuration of the story works out. Ellsworth’s credits include Disturbia and the remakes Last House On The Left, and Red Dawn. He’s repped by Robert Lazar and Larry Shuman at The Shuman Company. |
Re: Gremlins (remake)
I still want to see a Gremlins reboot. As long as they find a good way to keep it with practical effects and blend it with CGI. Also there is so many possibilities in finding comedy from our world today, think what they could do with it. Facebook, twitter, and much much more.

Re: Gremlins (remake)
So, seeing a Gremlin with a FB page? Or posting to Twitter?
GTFO. |
Re: Gremlins (remake)
As long as they have a disturbing childhood story in it like the original's dead dad in the chimney tale.

Re: Gremlins 3
No reboot. Give me a sequel. Guaranteed if they reboot it they will not use practical effects.

Re: Gremlins 3
I think it could be a mix of practical effects with CGI. Closeups would be practical, and any shots with a ton gremlins would be CGI.

Re: Gremlins 3
I have a bad feeling they're going to push too far toward Alvin & the Chipmunks/Smurfs style dumbed-down 'kid-friendly' with this one.

Re: Gremlins 3
Kid/Family movies in the 80s were all dark, I miss that. Especially now that Monster House is a decade old, I was hoping that would start a trend... it did not.
Oh well, at least we have Turbo Kid. |

Re: Gremlins 3
After Gremlins 2 turned the original film on its head – with Leonard Maltin reviewing Gremlins 1 in the movie and Gremlins overtaking the projection booth until Hulk Hogan stops them – it seemed to be the last word on the franchise. Decades later, talk of Gremlins 3 is finally real and original screenwriter Chris Columbus has written a script. Speaking with /Film about the festival hit Patti Cake$, which he produced, Columbus said his script asks a question which may have been on fans’ minds since the original: if all the gremlins come from getting Gizmo wet and feeding his mogwai offspring after midnight, should Gizmo be eliminated? “Very good observation,” Columbus said. “That comes up in the movie, certainly.” That raises a number of ethical issues. Gizmo himself has done nothing wrong. It’s human negligence that allows him to get soaked and lets the mischievous mogwai transform. Still, even Columbus thinks cute and loving Gizmo might not be worth the risk. “I think it probably is a good idea to be honest with you,” Columbus said. “Too many people are dying.” Columbus says his script returns to the macabre tone of the original film, whose monster murders were so intense that it, along with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, pressured the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating. Gremlins 2 was rated PG-13 “I’m really proud of the script,” Columbus said. “It is as twisted and dark as anything, so we’ll see. It’s always a budgetary conversation when we’re going to shoot it. I wanted to go back to the really twisted sensibility of the first movie. I found that was a very easy place for me to fall back into and start writing again so hopefully we’ll see that movie soon.” Gremlins fans are also worried that a new film would use CGI gremlins in place of the puppets. Columbus assured fans the film would still use puppets, but visual effects could make puppetry easier to achieve than it was in 1984. “Oh, without a doubt, minimal CGI,” Columbus said. “CGI will enable us to remove wires and make the puppeteers lives a little easier. It was brutal. It was like a marathon every night for those guys. In the bar scene alone there were 18 [or] 20 people behind the bar. No one had any space to move. It was just hellish for those guys so CGI will simplify that a little bit but it’s all puppets.” Gremlins 3 is now in development at Warner Brothers. Come back on Thursday for our full interview with Columbus on his production company Maiden Voyage, discovering new talent, and looking back at his own career. |

Re: Gremlins 3
The bit at the end of the commercial, what does she say? I tried to play it back twice but still could not make out what she said. Random thing to drop in this comment/thread, the NES Gremlins video game was a lot of fun and I got to the point where I could finish it quickly in one-sitting but still would replay the game as it was still a pleasure to play (I suspect I got to the point where I did not lose any lives while on a play through). NES games that did not have me wanting to pull out my hair while playing them had a tendency to get played multiple times.

Re: Gremlins 3
WB is still developing this. Part of a bigger article on WB's upcoming slate and future:
Franchise hopes abound down the road in Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Practical Magic 2, DC’s Clayface and Supergirl, Drew Goddard’s incoming script for a new Matrix, a new Gremlins from Christopher Columbus and a Goonies treatment. |

It's still a rumor and nothing official.
