Hey all,

just caught the new sequel, CHARLIE'S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE....and well...if you liked the first one, you should LOVE this one... it really is basically the first movie just blown up to the power of...three. It's light, quick and fun...not to mention, the movie could have been called "Charlie's Angels: Asses on Parade". I'm not going to bother with a plot discription or a comment on the performances, because in a movie like this, it doesn't really matter...sure the story is pretty lame, but everyone does a good job with the material, walking the fine line between camp and stupidity....

The only thing that might deter some, is that if the first film seemed frantic to you, you ain't seen nothing yet. This movie takes music video editing, mixes it with video game martial arts/pyro and just slaps you ****ing silly... This movie even has classic music video cinematography...you'll see what I mean... and thank god, Crispin Glover does make an appearance, reprising his role from the original...

The only major flaw of this flick (or rather, something that just doesn't add much to the "fun" factor the film has going for it) sadly, is Bernie Mac... I didn't find him NEARLY as funny as Bill Murray as Bosley...Mac just seems out of place, and his humour doesn't blend well with the tone that the first film and this one firmly establish....he tries hard, but I'd say too hard. Matt LeBlanc and John Cleese have some funny scenes and there is some great innuendo and double entendre...which of course I'm a fan of.

So in closing, if you just want a fun fun fun flick that doesn't let you catch your breath, this movie is for you....and if you want to see three babes kicking peoples asses in skimpy outfits, this movie is for you.... I really enjoyed it! 3 1/2 out of 5. (maybe on a second viewing, this could slip to a 4... i was pretty tired tonight)

MATT

I watched the Animated Charlie's Angels over at Quicktime.com and thought it was kinda cool - even though it was kinda stupid and full of fanservice - worth checking out. I'll probably go see the flick cuz dumb action movies are entertaining.

While I haven't seen the sequel yet, it seems that both the first and second CA movies really do a good job of knowing their identity as fluff.
What a lot of critics are missing, and I can see why as it really is a far fetched similie, is that CA it not much of a real film with any agenda. CA:FT is at its most basic a $100 million + production of three neighborhood girls playing dress up and inviting other friends from the area along for the ride. It is a great time for chlidish antics without a care in the world. The only problem is that some people get annoyed by this behavior and want those involved to "grow up." Well, they will when they want to, but they are having fun for the time being and invite everyone to join with with them. That's why I don't understand all the negativity towards these movies. It's just some girls having fun, let them have it and enjoy the show they put on for you!

For those who have seen it, how much screen time (if any) does Crispin Glover have?

From what I have read, I believe he gets little more than a glorified cameo.

Your a Doctor man, you should know these things the answer is simple. Like the guy in this thread that I picked apart, these type of people want it to be known to others, that they are abover these forms of entertainment, they are too elite, intelligent etc etc, to be bothered by such "immature" movies as CA. And MORE importantly to them, rather than just ignor these things like I, & many do when we have no interest in certain movies, they feel the NEED, to point out to others just how much they HATE these movies. But like the guy who you replied to & the guy I replied to, they BOTH are seeing the movie. B/c the DO like these movies, (& likely especially the T & A in them), but they have that elitist attitude, that they have to come off as they are above such things. That act really gets quite boring after a while. I mean there are people in this thread, that take the time to post lengthy reasons why these movies are all that is wrong in today's cinema, yet in that same thread they post "but I'll be seeing it". Or I have no interest in these types of movies whatsover, yet they are checking out threads ABOUT these movies. It's hard to take people like this seriously.

This movie turned into what I really didn't want it too, I really didn't have a good time with the movie.

Going into the first one, the movie just seemed dumb, from the trailers, I gathered bad effects, dialogue, plot, the whole shebang. But then I saw the movie and all that melted away and I didn't care because the movie was soo much fun. A movie that I vowed before I walked into the theater that I didn't want to see turned into a movie I saw two time the opening weekend.

But this one had me reliving the dread of what I though the first one would be. Yes, I know, the wire-fu isn't supposed to be realistic, but at least in part 1 gravity existed. It's so over the top and fake that I couldn't get into the fighting/action at all. And if you can't get into that there is very little left to get into since its all part of the campy joke.

Even simple dialogue scenes had the look of "fake"ness too them.

I really wanted to have as much fun with this one as the first one, but I didn't.

This sequel suffers mightily in that the villians just aren't all that interestingly written, and it shows in the plotting of the film, and the performances.

As the writers try to interject some personal life issues for each of the Angels into the mix, it doesn't really provide much in terms of character building sequences.

I don't think it's all that great of even a sequel, and it's missing a hipness to it, and has more of a re-tread feel to it. But there are some funny bits sprinkled in, just they are few and far between, and not enough to carry the film. The stunt work and fighting again defies gravity in many of the scenes, but hey, they're Angels, whadyaexpect? The bluescreen work seems a bit on the amatuerish side too.

That being said, I did enjoy the "Treasure Chest Revue" scene.

I recommend it as matinee viewing.

I give it 2.5 stars, or a grade of C+.

my girlfriend loved the first one, so i really had no choice but to watch this one, especially since i make her watch most of the movies i want to see. a few years ago i saw 10 minutes of the first one, and couldn't stand to watch the rest.

anyways, since i knew i had to watch Full Throttle, i borrowed the first one from my girlfriend last night, watched it, and hated it. saw Full Throttle today: i thought it was just like the first one, and i hated it. bernie mac was the only part of the movie i enjoyed.

what really surprised me though was that my girlfriend hated it too. she said it was too much like the first one, so i guess she was upset because they didn't do anything different.

What's the Connection?
I just got back from seeing it, and thought it was pretty good. It was everything I expected. Mindless over the top, action, fun.

Me if

I can find a muscular woman to push my wheelchair get popcorn and a big Cola drink. After movie push me out to the car and drive me to Mickey Ds (McDonalds) for a bite to eat after the movie. Take me home on country roads

Our Roller Skating crowd always stopped at Mickey D on Mickly road in Allentown, PA. We were a hungary bunch, every 12 times on the out side of the rink was 1 mile. On all nighters we would be in the hundreds of miles and hungary

From your review, it sounds like you're giving it a C+ on the merit
of the 'Tresure Chest review' alone. Those must be some chests!

Sound's like I better check this one out myself. I always feel the
need to check out chests. of treasure. er treasure breasts. I
mean chests.

It was stupid and fun. Cameos were great, plot took a back seat, effects were decent, and it was kinda funny. I didn't hate it, but I knew what to expect going in.

Oddly enough, Gene Shalit said the exact same thing about this movie on "The Today Show" yesterday...

Loved it. Maybe even more over the top than the original, but I had a smile plastered on my face throughout. Definitely more gratuitous flesh in this one, as well . Diaz continues to gain my admiration for doing scenes that don't always put her in the best light or situations and is game to do anything (maybe $20 mil will do that to you). The (too) brief Thin Man scenes were just kick-ass and I enjoyed the cameos throughout. Bring on the next one!

Saw it. Found it extremely entertaining. However, I think this will be similar to last year's Columbia sequel: MIB 2. It took the first one and gave audiences more of the same, which is what sequels made without a single, pre-planned storyline are supposed to do, at least according to filmmakers. Problem is: tastes change.
I am not saying that I disliked the movie, quite the opposite. However, it seemed like the actresses were trying WAAY too hard to be cute and make make the audience like them. Well, we came back to see your sequel, obviously we like you, so quit trying so hard! While they were all great in their roles, I just got the vibe that each one of them, after some recent career lulls, were really starved for attention.
That said, Demi Moore really owned every scene she had, and I think she should play more bad guy roles in the future.

I give it three stars, or a solid B. Worth the matinee price I paid.

Just saw this flick, too. While it was entertaining, I think that's about all it does for me. No second viewing in the theaters. No DVD when it comes out. Probably no TV when it's on basic cable.

The movie is definitely geared for summer-viewing in that it had lots of action with many stars cast in the main roles as well as in cameos. However, the storyline itself was also the typical "summer blockbuster" fare and wasn't engaging enough to make me care about what was about to happen. As a redeeming point, there were only two glaringly obvious moments during the film for me.

Personally, I also give it a 3/5.

Since nobody even looked in my thread, here is my take on the movie. . .

So I saw it in a packed theater Friday & I have to say I was VERY dissapointed. And I really liked the first one. The first one is what it is, I love it & appreciate it for that. But given the insane budget of the sequal, I found it extremely annoying. The movie is so redundant. Uber-over-the top action scene with MTV single blasting, followed by brief girly comedic scene, then repeat for 2 straight hours. That was the entire movie, like a mathematical formula. The first one was actually kind of fresh. 3 women in a big budget fun action romp, there really hasn't been anything like that. But there is nothing fresh or creative about the sequal. You can accomplish what McG wants to accomplish, without all the over the top wire work. That & the music were really my 2 main problems of the movie. IT was just too much, & when a movie is 2 hours long, & EVERY single fight has the ridiculous wire scenes, they just all look the same. An hour into the movie, I was really liking it, but after that it get's so repititive, there is almost nothing they can do to make a fight look different, aside from actually having them fight without wires. The few times they show Diaz kick or Lucy fight without wires, I though it looked really good.

My other large complaint, & reason why I loved the first one was the bad guys. Glover was that token bad ass, silent bad guy that we all love. Rockwell, who is good in everything he does, was the perfect fun, evil villain. You could tell he had fun in the role & really brought life to the character. This movie, I felt the villains were bad guys b/c that is who they are suppose to be. Demi Moore was boring, she was the bad guy b/c she wore black & the trailers told us that, nothiing more.. The Irish guy was in prison, so he must be bad, that's it. Boring, lifeless. (And why was he able to walk though fire).

For the budget this movie had, they should have worried about being more creative, rather than just make stuff blow up better & people fly more. If you don't like this movie, there is lot's of stuff you can pick apart, but for those that like it, it's like "well stuff blew up good, the girls were hot, it was fun". That's it, that is all you can say about the movie, & for me that is not enoug, I got that in the first one, I don't need to see it again for 2 hours unless they switch it up a bit. And the music, were these all songs McG directed the video to. Out of the billions of songs out there, why does he use the same Prodigy songs that are in every movie & trailer.

What I did like about the movie. . .

- Bernie Mac the first hour. Very funny, I kind of felt like he wrote his own lines in the beginning, but after that it was the script, & his jokes fell flat.

- Bringing Back Thin Man, only to have him go good, & then be killed. That was actually the only fresh thing in the entire movie.

- The pussycant lounge scene. I KNOW everyone hates here, so keep it out of this thread, but dear god Lucy Liu is hot. the only bright spot of the movie for me was her.

Sorry, Sessa17. I don't have an elitist attitude, nor am I above anything. I like silly movies as much as the next person. Even you, maybe. My point was that sometimes a movie comes along that is so bad I can't help but watch it. The first CA was one such example. I expect nothing less from the second. If you don't understand that, and in turn you can't take me seriously, I'll be okay with that. Just try not to tell me what attitude I have. Thanks.

Ughhhhh. I think you missed my point. I never said there is anything wrong with people who want to see movies like CA. I liked the first one, & saw the second one. My bone is with the people who say and I quote "I have no interest in this movie whatsover" & then proceed to bash such movies & then at the end of it they say "but I'll be seeing CA2" as has happened with several posts in this thread. But I do disagree with the "movie is so bad, I can't help but watch it" theory. There are tons of movies that are so bad, that one likes them. But why would you watch a movie just because it's bad. Unless, you actually like it, which is different. And then if you like it, is it really that bad?
