Wow. This is one of those situations that I’ve always been on the other side of. You know; the ones where the hard core fans are getting pissed off about the changes while the non fans are getting excited about the new direction the new medium takes the property.
I never got into the transformers as a kid or later. I couldn’t stand the production line animation design of robots made of cubes and rectilinear cubes. I always called them Rubiks robots. The transformations looked completely ridiculous and that bionic sound effect…well, sorry.
It was proven that robots and complex machinery could be animated in things like Maddox 1 and Roujin Z. I gravitated toward this fare. Seeing the photos of the Bumblebee, Blackout/Incinerator and that jet guy gives me hope. These actually look like machines that can function as a conventional vehicle and flower out into biped form and function that way. I applaud the design team. Except for Megatron, that smacks of the design school that brought us Arnie’s Mr Freeze and the never used Sentinel from X2. These people think that more noise in the detail, without any coherent structure, is where it’s at. Honestly, when I see design like that, I hearken back to the day when I thought methamphetamine made me a better artist. Bumblebee though? Wow! He opens up and you can see that the brake discs are the processes of his shoulder girdle. More stuff like that and I will be stoked.
Maybe I missed something when I missed the epic story of The Transformers (I watched the CG Beast Wars for a while) but, I just don’t get thrilled by really bad drawings. Maybe this time, I’m Joe 6-pack (well, Joe 12-pack really).
It feels weird to be Joe 12-pack for once, but I like machines, not living cubes.
Who knows? Maybe I’ll be posting in the “Most Disappointing Movies” thread after, but most of the designs have made me more excited than I was.

Megatron looks cool... as some sort of Insecticon queen. Honestly, I both like and hate his design. I can understand updating the designs and all but that is a total reimagination. If Don Murphy thinks he's appealing the fans by crapping all over their hopes for this feature, he should be banned from ever producing another feature again.
I know they've already shot some of this film but can't they just shoot around the Transformers so they can totally retool their designs to something that remotely resembles G1. Heck, even Armada was closer to what I'm seaing right now.
And, if it is too late, can they please change the title to something other than Transformers? I'm really having a hard time staying optimistic here.

I haven't been following this production too closely, even though I was a big fan as a kid. I had a bunch of the toys, and when we would rent videos, I would use my "choice" for one 25 minute episode of Transformers.
As a fan of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica, I understand how sometimes you need to change things. But even BSG kept the look of the show IMO, the Vipers look like evolved Vipers, the Galactica looks like an evolved Galactica...
...these new Transformers designs...look like crap.
The "fake" video posted just above just gave me more of thrill than anything I've seen from the new production yet.
I don't have high hopes for this flick, despite the guy in charge, I was willing to give it a shot, but I'm seriously reconsidering.

Spoiler-heavy script review.

Although I will cop to liking the part where

At least the real Transformers: The Movie (1986) is getting re-released on DVD in November. I just hope that if a live action G.I. Joe movie is ever made, the people who made the live action Transformers stay the hell away.

So yeah, I am passionate about seeing one of the most memorable parts of my childhood again on the big screen, and I do get upset when everything about the movie is decidedly NOT what I remembered. So what's it to you?

Come on. Can't you find any humor in your passion for The Transformers? It's not even just a little funny? Lighten up.
