I'm cool with Depp as Wonka, but I still think Walken should atleast be in this in any part.

I didnt even think about Walken as Grandpa Joe. Thats a great idea. Now theres one more important casting choice: Charlie. How about Haley Joel Osment. I know he's the first one people suggest for any kids role but I think he would do well.

I just thought with that scene where Grandpa Jow first gets out of bed after all those years and dances.....that Walken would be perfect for it. lol, I wish I could be a casting director.

kinda off-topic, but what was it about the original film that R. Dahl didn't like?
I just clipped this from a longer article on Depp and the role:

Warners has long wanted to redo the twisted kiddie story, but Dahl was never a big fan of the 1971 adaptation, titled Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and starring Gene Wilder, which the author thought was half-baked (even though it's now considered a cult classic). Since his death, Dahl's estate has been hesitant to greenlight another movie version.

Another vote for Walken

I think that's more of a case of the children appealing to him.

Well, Jones could play Slugworth. All those whisperings into children's ears...

True. Wonka is looking for an heir.
