All great choices, but everytime I try thinking of a new Wonka Rik Mayall keeps pooping .. . err popping up.

Marily Manson - hands down. He's wanted this role for so long, just give it to him.

Paul Bettany for Wonka
How shameless of you, Mr. Bettany! Now back to the sideline characters with you, and if you don't stop this silly self-serving self-promotion, we'll take away your wife.

Chris Cooper or Will Farrell. I also like The Bill Murray suggestion for Willy Wonka.
Charlie could be played by Haley Joel Osment.

Tom Green or Tom Arnold.

Kidding of course. My vote goes to either Marilyn Manson or Johnny Depp. Michael Keaton? Oh Dear God, please no.

Seeing as how it's a Tim Burton movie, I think Johnny Depp would be the best choice, but Christopher Walken would be too cool for words!

I would honestly think that Depp is more of a Burton leading man than Michael Keaton, but that's just me. Also, if Tim Burton drops out of the movie, I recommend they replace him with Spike Jonze. He could make a great Wonka movie IMO.

Walken or Keaton are actually two choices that might be decent, as opposed to some of the other names thrown around (namely Marilyn Manson). Still, I'd be blown away if it's anywhere near as good as the original.

Out of Walker/Keaton, I'd rather see Keaton. He'd be more fun and not quite as stiff as Walker.

Another consideration for Robert Carlisle.

Jack Nicholson.

Pretty much reprising his role as the Joker, which he owned. Willy Wonka is a nut job if you've ever actually read the book. Nobody plays crazy better than Nicholson, except for maybe Crispin Glover who someone mentioned, and that's just because he IS crazy. Wonka is supposed to be a bit older, and if Nicholson could just shed a few pounds, I think he'd be perfect.

Sam Rockwell.

I think he's not so well known that people would see the actor instead of the character. And he's an amazing actor. From the psycho in Green Mile to the vulnerable guy in Galaxy Quest to the

I think they should make it in the same vein as "The Wiz" and have Bernie Mac play him. Its the only way to make this remake remotely interesting even if Burton is the one re-doing it.

I think Mark Hamill as Willy Wonka with Harrison Ford as Grandpa Joe.

Have Natalie Portman play Charli.

Then replace the Oompa Loompas with Ewoks and you have a huge hit of a movie.

Of course you might want to replace Burton with Lucas.

I put my pants on, just like everyone else: one leg at a time. Except after that, I make a lot of candy.

I gotta fever! And the only prescription, is more candy!

If they cast Walken, I'd laugh my ass off the entire picture.

Keaton is a nice choice though.

I think most if not all of the suggested real actors could handle the role, but I can't get Planet of the Apes out of my head, does anyone actually want to see this movie get made?

but... if the movie had to be made, and it was my decision I would pick Keaton
