The lesson: in the summertime, PG-13 is golden.

I think this begs the question: Why couldn't M:R been PG-13? Was the cheesecake example so important? Was the rave/love scene so important? I doubt it was the violence that got the R rating. The action seemed a lot more like fantasy than real life. I thought the first one was more violent as far as blood goes.

You could argue the Wach. Brothers had their own vision, and it was an R-rated vision, box office receipts be damned! I applaud the studio for backing them since the 2 sequels cost $300 million to make.

I think Bruce Almighty which was ABSOLUTE TORCHER to sit through the last hour of the movie made an insane 90 million this weekend. That's what the estimates say. As one of the few Jim Carrey haters, this disapoints me greatly as I really thought the movie was bad, & now he will be cranking out the comedies again.

I seem to recall reading somewher that TMR is having great difficulty clicking with women audiences, which can be a major strike when it comes to guys who want to see it once or again but only want to go with their GFs. Not to mention the whole word of mouth thing seems to come from women moreso than guys. (I am not trying to stereotype, from what I have seen, it is true. )

Let's not kid ourselves, the Matrix trilogy doesn't have universal appeal. The demographic will be predominantly male, and in the 18-49 age group.

yeah, but he can always fall back on this kind of movie for the bucks. And his last movie (The Grinch) was the biggest movie of that year. I'm not sure how that's slumping. Tom Cruise made Magnolia and Eyes Wide Shut, and no one really cares.

Wow, somebody set fire to the theater?

Surprising to see BA make such a splash. I knew it would do well, even beat MR, but I guess folks are hungry to see Jim Carrey do a strictly comedy role again.

Honk!

Then people around here would bitch and moan that the Wachowski Brothers gave in and made their movie PG-13. It never ends.

I'm gonna catch this next week probably. Seems Carrey is either hit or miss with all his movies. I think the only 4 good films he has put out are...

Truman Show
Man on the Moon
Dumb & Dumber
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

The top 2 being his best and the bottom being his best 2 comedic performances. I also like his character in Cable Guy. Anyway...

I thought they did somewhat give in when I started seeing Matrix product tie-ins (e.g. beer commercials, soda commercials, video game commercials). Granted, every other movie franchise does it too. But, somehow I thought they were above that. I guess the dollar wins every time. The worst is that stupid Sprite (or some soda) commercial they play in the theater before movies. At first, I thought it was a Men In Black tie-in. Then, after a while I realized that the actor was trying to look and sound like Agent Smith.

Oh goodie. The return of the lame ass jim carrey comedy.
At least it's better than the lame ass jim carrey drama.

Jim carrey's films at a glance:

once bitten funny little picture with bite.

the dead pool: his best role still remains playing the 5 minute role of a rock star junkie who become some madman's victim.

earth girls are easy wacky & fun although carrey doesn't get to do much.

doing time on maple drive (TV) jim carrey boozing it up as his anger for his father grows. hilarity insues.

ace ventura: when I first watched it I remember how insane it was that I was laughing so much. Alrighty then.

the mask any sort of real comedy takes a back seat to special effects. cameron diaz was pretty to look at, at least.

dumb & dumber wacky humor with heart.

ace ventura 2 when I first watched this I remember how insane it was that people actually thought
this film was actually good and funny enough to release to the public.

batman forever: not a very interesting performance nor movie.

the cable guy probably his best comedy.

liar liar utter dreck. cue close-up of adorable kid. BLECH.

the truman show i'm still dissapointed in the film, but it still was pretty good...for a jim carrey movie.

man on the moon a marginal thumbs down. it had some good moments, but nothing you haven't already seen in the available videos of the real andy kaufman.
the last part of the film is the pits.

me, myself & irene it's like beating a dead horse. Or rather, cow.

how the grinch stole christmas even if I were 3 i'd find this movie annoying.

the majestic An attempt at being "capra-esque"
Perhaps the only person who could get away with that is frank capra. Note to frank darabont... There's a little something called editing, I hear it works wonders. I would look into it. zzzzzzz.

bruce almighty: Although I haven't seen it, I don't have to be god to know this film is reason enough to give up watching films to move to tahiti and try to paint like gaughin.
