I would like to teach film, but not actually try to make them. I might give the old L.A. approach a try, but only to say I did it and be a better teacher. I hope to get a PH.D in Literature with a film studies emphasis so I can sit around and discuss movies with young minds and get paid for it.

I'm surprised none of the L.A. filmmakers from the "otter farm" have come in here and tried to burst people's bubbles. I know a few have film degrees, but their posts leads one to believe they aren't exactly earning a living with it. In fact, they don't ever mention what they really do.

If they don't ever mention what they really do, how do you know they're filmmakers?

Well, they said they went to film school, so technically they're filmmakers who aren't working in film.

I'd like to write and direct. I've wanted to do an adaptation of Frank Peretti's The Oath for the big screen because it's one of those books that a complete mind-job for the first half, then becomes a thriller. Reminds me of some of Hitchcock's movies.

Rocky_Stallone - If you want to write screenplays, drop by the local bookstore or even check out half.com...

pick up:

by Syd Field
Screenplay, the foundations of Screenwriting
Selling a Screenplay: Screenwriters guide to Hollywood

others:
How to Write a Selling Screenplay by Christopher Keane
How Not to Write a Screenplay by Denny Martin Flinn

These are all excellent resources and will help you get started. It takes a bit to brake the ice, believe me I know. I wrote 3 screenplays half way through, scrapped those, and finally wrote one I was happy with through completion.

Also check out the following websites:
www.triggerstreet.com
www.breakingin.net
www.asascreenwriters.com
www.craftyscreenwriting.com

Let me know if you need any more help.
