Permission was given to the theaters.
"Pent-up demand is so strong that Warner is preempting the picture's official Thursday opening with 10 p.m. Wednesday previews in at least 2,000 theaters."

There are 5 showings at my local multiplex starting at 10 p.m. tonight.
I'm going to hold off a week or two before seeing it in all likelihood.
That multiplex is always crowded as hell even when there's not a huge movie opening.

I'm wondering if this was planned from the beginning?
Usually movies don't open on Thursday. Plan for a Wednesday opening, but pretend that you are going open on Thursday. Then, increase perceived demand by suddenly adding Wednesday shows.

Actually my local multiplex has 8 showings tonight, guess they added more since the ad was sent to the Washington Post.
A friend called and asked about seeing it tonight, so I might end up catching it after all.
If I decide to go I'll probably try to get their around 9, and if the 10 p.m. showings are sold out we'll just catch X-men 2 instead. But I have to get a paper done for grad school first.

Going to see it tonight at 10:20. I was originally going with a friend to see X². It took some convincing to get him to switch. I told him we can go Friday to see X².
