That's like picking between your two kids! They each have their own special qualities, I love them both!

DARK CITY - this one has more depth than The Matrix (which I loved) and is a better crafted movie.

Let's see...

Dark City - a movie.
The Matrix - lame acting interspersed between cheesy special effects action scenes.

No-brainer to me.

both movies were good. drak city had far less action, obviously.

but i give the edge to matrix, simply because of kiefer sutherland's manner of speaking in dark city. god, that was annoying.

I vote Dark City, though I do think The Matrix is an excellent movie.

If we are "on" something, please explain why The Matrix is obviously a better film?

Dark City

Simply enough because I was still thinking about Dark City after I watched it, whereas with the Matrix I was just going back to watch scenes over again.

Hmmm . . . let's see. . . Dark City by a landside. It's my all time favorite movie--don't know why I love it so much, but I can watch it over and over and over and always think it's the greatest scifi movie and the greatest love story I've ever seen.

The Matrix? I liked it okay and own the dvd, but I've only watched it 3 times. It didn't resonate with me the way Dark City does.

Like others have said, I too am torn between them both...Matrix was TOTALLY original to me, as I don't believe I've seen that plot in any other movies that I've seen....notice I say "that I've seen"...and I enjoyed the action stuff etc. and the Zen like comments made throughout...

On the other hand, I also thoroughly enjoyed Dark City, when I first saw this sucker, I was blown away...I've seen both of these flicks perhaps 4 to 5 times each....I'll watch either of them repeatedly...just depends on what I'm looking for from the flick.

I'm just curious...a total of 78 votes in the poll....and yet in my own little count here in the posting world, we've got a total of 34 votes....how many people come in and vote without posting....how many people come in and post without voting in the official poll....or how many come in and post without casting a vote either way....speaking of which:

Where is the voting options of "I can't pick one, love them both" and "I can't pick one because they both blew chunks"?

I haven't seen Dark City. Would having seen the Matrix ruin it for me?

I don't think so. The stories at their core are very similar but their styles are completely different. I don't think I would have liked Dark City any less or more if I saw the other one first, I judge each film on its own.

I thought they were both outstanding movies, but Matrix was far more entertaining. Dark City lost points due to Keifer Sutherland (for me)... but even if someone else played that character, I would've found Matrix to be overall more fun.

I'm a fan of the Matrix, but Dark City rewards a greater involvement from the viewer, something I'm always a fan of, so that'd be my pick.
