Plot of "World of Tomorrow"? (No Spoiler)
I found out about the new in production movie 'World of Tomorrow' with Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow only yesterday. It sounds really intriguing. There is a thread on IMDB that says that the film is a "pre-World war 2 Sci-Fi movie". This made me wonder if it was set in New York's 1939 World Fair, which was captioned as "The World of Tomorrow". Does anyone know?

I suppose there's not much talk about this one here. Nonetheless the few tidbits I've read have me really excited to see this one.
Anyone here anything else regarding this film? If it lives up to what they're saying this could be a most incredible film. I know in a separate report the writer director supposedly had created the graphics capabilties to make the movie, so he's in charge of this one across the board. Nonetheless, if this turns out 1/10th as good as the potential, then kick ass! I love old serial adventures and the old science fiction asthetic, so this could be insanely cool. Here's a few links to AICN that gives some ideas what the film is about. The third one is a script review...He raves over it...of course it is Harry Knowles but still...his descriptions still have me excited over the prospects. http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=16454 http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=15922 http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=15297 |
I heard that the official title for this movie will be "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" (like "Indiana Jones and..."), and that the studio has given the go ahead to make more movies based on Sky Captain (Jude Law's character). I can't wait for this movie. Aren't we supposed to get a teaser for this right about now?

Hey looks like theyed showed a preview on ET.
http://www.themoviebox.net/news/2003...s-SkyCapt.html Here are some screencaps. Poor quality but looks cool. Angelina in an eye patch...interesting. Anyone know if the trailer is up? |
Wow, those screencaps look horrible.
Also, can we all agree to never, ever use the Star Trek: The Next Generation font ever again, ever? |
I thought this movie was going to be in black and white.
|
|
Angelina filmed her entire role in front of a blue screen. Ugh...
|
They showed the trailer on Access Hollywood last nite.
[complete with annoying Pat O'Brien voiceovers] It peaked my interest.. |
Real Media 20 Second bit from Extra last nite.
[it runs 1:21, but there's only about 20secs of Sky Captain footage...stop right after that or you'll be subjected to some stupid Osbourne clan shit at the end..] |
I found some info about:
http://www.skycaptain.com/ http://www.themoviebox.net/news/2003...s-SkyCapt.html Sky Capn' http://www.skycaptain.com/downloads/...01_800x600.jpg Is sky captain really going to be shot entirely on blue screen? Why the hell for? And I Robot. http://www.irobotnow.com/ http://www.hollywoodnorthreport.com/pages/ir/irGa.htm http://www.hollywoodnorthreport.com/...obotpics1d.htm |
Sounds pretty cool and the cast looks good to me.

the look of the film is what got me..
still waiting for a hi-res QT trailer.. |
Originally posted by jaeufraser If you've seen the clips you'll see how the movie has an almost animated look. The blue screen effect goes along with one of the other things the director did (besides writing and directing) which was developing the computer software to create the film. I'm sure one reason is costs, but another seems to be to completely create a visual look that isn't really real. And, I for one, think it looks awesome. Let's hope the movie is good. |
The director spent many years doing visual effects for this movie, before it got picked up by a studio.
|
does anyone else think this movie completely stole the visual style from mamoru oshii's avalon?

Why don't we make a futuristic Wild, Wild, West movie?
|
|
I'm in for this.
|
I think that looks pretty awesome. I just hope the movie is good too...capturing a style is one step, making a good yarn is the second. Looks cool.
|
I like the style to the flick as well, count me in.
It's like a cartoony film noir sci-fi action/adventure flick, cool. |
Hot damn, that looks pretty cool.
I caught shades of "The Rocketeer," which has a visual style I've always loved. I'm there. |
