I don't know about the part two thing, but I dont' really consider the Bond Movies sequels. Don't get me wrong I think that it is one fo the best movie Franchises out there but I don't think that each movie builds on previous ones before it in terms of plot.

I think I would consider the Bonds sequels. Especially after seeing Die Another Day. What was the first ever sequel? I think this has been asked before on this forum. And I think it may have been a silent film.

i agree. the bonds i wouldn't put in one train. ie one lead to another. most of them are standalone without progression. however i think the most sequels at the moment is friday the 13th.

Well I'd say James Bond is the longest running sequel. I'd consider them sequels. They are a progression of films using the same franchinse. Sure, there's no progression really in plot for an overarching storyline, but they are a series of stories about this character from different adventures in his life. Ok, they aren't even all plausibly linked but...I think we're just nitpicking now. And Star Wars ain't science fiction. heh

Well if you consider the Bond movies sequels.......he doesn't have the most. The Japanese movie franchise 'Zatoichi' which is just getting an R1 release on DVD has *26* entries.
I don't know about the first ever sequel, but one of the earliest has to be Don Q, Son of Zorro, released in 1925, a followup to The Mark of Zorro released five years earlier. Douglas Fairbanks starred in both movies, and (ObDVD) they are available as a double feature DVD from Kino Video in the U.S.

I believe that the Wong Fei-Hung series is the largest franchise. Once Upon a Time in China was the 100th film featuring the character, and there have been several since then.

In 1949, the spirit of Wong Fei Hung would come in the cinema at a time where the film market in Asia was going down due to the effects of World War II. Enter opera star and actor Kwan Tak Hing, who played the role of Master Wong in a series of...99 films?! The series lasted 21 years, ending in 1970. But that did not stop the ageless Kwan, who would continue his tenure for another 11 years, his final WFH performance in 1981's Dreadnaught. In fact, Kwan became so into the role of the master that he himself ran a pharmacy where he also taught martial arts. Sadly, at the age of 91, Kwan Tak Hing died in 1997

good lord, i retract. i was thinking that it'd be spread over a bunch of actors and people as i have seen about 6 or 7 with at least 4-5 different actors. but yeah, one guy doing them all? sounds decent enough for a series. and we have a winner.
