Critics + Horror movies = A bad combination

Unless it's family friendly horror (i.e. The Others), critics are going to hate it.

Not that The Others is a bad movie, but critics usually just don't get it.

Last I read a few weeks back its only being released in about 10 cities....if it doesn't do well there, you'll have to wait for the DVD.

House of 1000 Corpses

I just watched House of 1000 Corpses and let me tell you this is the horror movie to beat this year. Forget Freddy vs. Jason, this movie has it all. The movie has a storyline similar to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It also has the feel of horror movies from the seventies. The movie is not very gory, but when you leave the theater you think you saw more then you did. Rob Zombie has a lot of talent as a director and I hope that he makes more movies. I give this movie **** out of ****.

PS: I can't for the life of me figure out why Universal drop this movie. There is hardly anything to be sickened by in this movie. In terms of releasing a movie this is a pretty standard horror movie except that it makes you think you saw things that you really didn't. Any thoughts on why Universal dropped this movie?

its been dropped a couple times and delayed for years...i thought it was supposed to be unrated because of the sheer amounts of gore and violence? has it been cut so badly that nothing is left?

whered you see it at?

From what I heard it wad trimmed a lot to get an R rating, and an unrated version will be released later on DVD. Part of the reason there was such a delay and it was dropped is because Zombie wanted to release it uncut.

Well since the film had a few reshoots & so on durring the delay.Maybe the more gruesome footage was cut from the final theatrical print in order to get a R rating?

Then Rob mentions not much from the 'cut down' print is what got by with a few small trims.

Since the pictures shown in Fangoria were very grotesque.Unless most of the really gruesome stuff is just background imagery like a freakshow come alive?

I don't know.Just a theory if the film turns out not to gruesome.Still it says rated R for strong sadistic violence/gore ect.So hopefully the uncut version will deliver the goods when released on dvd.

Okay, I pray you are the real deal and not a shill.

Assuming you are real, any word on how wide a release this flick will get with its limited run? Also, are the make-up effect as good as they look online?

I am not a shrill. I saw this for real legally. (my friend's father owns a theater and they got a preview copy of it.) It's being released in 50 cities on April 11th and will go wider if it does well. There are a lot of freaky things going on in the background. I love how I'm attacked for giving an honest review of a movie. I'm just trying to give you guys a heads up on a movie that has been thru a lot and now has seen the light of day.

well when someone who is a "cool new member" jumps on a movie and starts praising it to no end, it sounds fishy. I had my thoughts that you were a SHILL at first.. Maybe an IP check can be done to just assure everyone you are real.. even though you did sign up in december 2002, so I mean it's not like you are still wet behind the ears but still Shills are when studio workers themselves try to get some free promotion on web sites.

though a good question.. why would a small theater in Memphis have a preview of it 2 weeks in advance of the movie?

Jack, that's what I was about to ask. Why would the studio send your friends dad a "preview copy"? What's he gonna do with it?

The funniest 'shill' i saw was on a horror newsgroup.Someone from Warner was pretending to be a 'real' fan & advertising FearDot.com

Basically the person wrote "Hey..this kibitchen movie is out on dvd soon..its called FearDot.com,about,get this..a KILLER WEBSITE!..it's so cool man & one of the scariest movies EVER!..don'nt miss it..buy a copy today!".....hilarious since they think people would be that dumb to fall for it.Yet a quick search of the persons IP..resulted in Warner coming up

Even funnier is the movie sucks even by horror standards..& yet they still thought people would fall for the little plug. They are to obvious!

Maybe if they would attempt a real natural review..& not try typing what they think is 'hip' today since they know nothing of how teens speak today. Thus just speak regularly..& maybe you'd actually fool some people.
