View From The Top- Does anyone actually think this looks funny?

I keep seeing commercials for the new Gwyneth Paltrow movie with Mike Myers and Rob Lowe, and I must say that it is the most unfunny marketing campaign ever.

"I put the wrong em-phasis on the wrong syl-lable."

Hardee har har. NOT.

It looks painfully bad. Does anyone actually find the commercials funny?

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, but I found the emphasis/syllable bit one of the funnier one-liners I've heard from a comedy film ad in a while.

But yeah, other than that, it's not lookin' so good. Plus, I'm no big fan of Gwyn.

It's definitly been one of the more memorable ones, I don't know how I feel on the film itself, but that little bit showed, oddly enough, a mild source of intelligence somewhere in there.

Joke itself is mildly amusing and oddly memorable.

Yeah, I have to say that the emphasis/syllable part was pretty clever, to me. Maybe that was just b/c the rest of the trailer seemed so boring and useless.

Thats one of those line where its funny when you hear it for the first time - but then it gets old after the 3rd time seeing it - and THEN, i go to the movie and people laugh at this like its the first time they've heard it. I feel like screaming out

"THAT LINE WAS IN THE TRAILER PEEEEEEEPLE."

I don't know why everybody's creaming over the "emphasis/syllable" joke. Growing up I don't think I had one English teacher who didn't use it regularly in class.

As for the movie, looks bad. I like how in the adverts they are pimping Mike Myers as one of the leads, but you can tell he's really only in it for a few minutes.

Like everything Mike Myers has done in the last decade that joke is a retread of SNL material. He used that Emphasis/Sylable joke on SNL 10 years ago. That joke is so old hat. Even my dad rolled his eyes. What's next? a Lothar of the Hill People movie?

that said the film looks like it might be pretty good. It seems almost old fashioned, like a star-vehicle of the old H'wood,

it might be good.

I must be kinda out of it, because I can honestly say the VftT ad is the first time I've ever heard the emphasis/syllable gag.

I guess I think it's funny since I'm a sucker for Explain an English Rule While Breaking That Rule Jokes, such as...

Don't use commas, that aren't necessary.

Remember to never split infinitives.

Avoid cliches like the plague.

No sentence fragments.

And so on.....

I will wait until I see some reviews before I decide. Frankly I have enjoyed every movie I've seen with Christina Applegate... and I was the LAST person I would have expected to like The Sweetest Thing!

Well, considering this movie has been completed for like the past two years, and has not been theatrically released, I think it is safe to say that this movie will blow. I agree with the previous statements of Myers, after AP3 I realized he was hasbeen funnyman turned self-indulgent prick akin to Robin Williams. They are poorly mismarketting this romantic comedy as a comedy with a little romance. From what I hear Myers is in the thing for 6 minutes....

Well, Ebert liked it. He gave it 3 stars. Now I know I'm not seeing this.

Nah, first you get the Sugar!

I can't say it looks particularly good to me, although it got 3 stars by the local reviewer. I did like the emphasis line though. Probably the only thing, really.

On a side note, it's been pushed back for a while. Mainly because sep 11, I guess they really wanted to make sure folks were ready for a airplane comedy since it's been a while..

Yeah, but it's a good thing Sum of All Fears didn't wait, and that still exploded at the box office, so Mirimax can't really use the whole "terrorist" explanation as to why they delayed a romantic comedy.
