The Ring 2 info.

This was taken from ringworld.com

RING 2 TO BE AN ORIGINAL STORY. 25 February, 2003. Received the following e-mail from a person who wished to remain anonymous: A contact in DreamWorks has confirmed that meetings have taken place about Ring 2. It looks like Naomi Watts has been in talks to star again, and she is about to sign. She will pull in an estimated 15 million (unconfirmed publicly) for her reprisal of her role, and the child actor will return as her son. No concrete story has been proposed, but Director Gore Verbinski may not return. The writing team will reunite. Spielberg, Wes Craven or Sam Mendes may take over the project.

The sequel will NOT have anything to do with the Japanese sequels.

A rough script will be in by December of this year. Hopefully, an October 2004 release date will be met. They will shoot for a 2 year anniversary.

I would love to see Sam Mendes direct this.

Hopefully the original story will be intelligent, as the first was, and not turn into a simple, cliche horror movie.

I'll be there when this opens even if it looks like it sucks and even if the reviews are bad for one reason.... Naomi Watts

Why don't they continue basing them on the Japanese sequels? There was some sort of trilogy right?

There isn't really a trilogy, just three movies. Ring is based on the novel, while Ring 2 is an entirely original story, and, imo, not a very good one. I wouldn't normally say this, but not following the route of the originals might make the American movie series better.

Ring 0 is at least partly based on a short story by the author of the novel. However, all of the filmmakers involved with the first two were not involved with Ring 0, and it's even worse than Ring 2.

Does this info sound a little fabricated to anyone else? Speilberg, Mendes? Please.

That actually seems more likely than Wes Craven. Spielberg and Mendes both direct for Dreamworks quite often, whereas Craven is a Dimension Films guy. (I dunno how it works, it just seems that way to me.)

The only thing that seems a lil fictional is how much Naomi Watts will be pulling in, it's kind of odd to jump from like $1m to $15m, tho if Reese can do it....

It's probably fabricated but no big deal. They initially started by saying "We don't need any sequels to The Ring" when they were expecting the first to tank (it tested poorly.) the second it crossed $100m, all that changed. And it's been previously said that it, The sequel, won't follow the original jap flicks (Good.)

That would be pretty funny. spielberg directing a ring sequel instead of sequels to his other hit films and after his hot streak with 2 excellent films. RIGHT. That'll happen.

Smells more like wes craven or the likes. Although he has his hands full with 3 horror projects.

The first ring was a bore. Hopefully the 2nd one would be less snooze inducing.

Here's an idea... why not hire someone who isn't a dreamworks patsy? Someone with an ORIGINAL VISION.

They need to base the sequel off the second book - Spiral/Rasen

If they make a third, they should base it off the third book - Loop

That's what I think anyway.

I disliked the second Japanese Ring and detested the third one, and not only for their cinematic qualities. The storylines were weak, and basically everything was explained.

Well, I liked Ring 2. I thought it was pretty scary. Sure, it was cheesey, but at least they kept with the same characters somewhat. Ring 0 was terrible.
