I've said it before and i'll say it again. Empire Strikes Back is one of the most overrated movies ever! This coming from a die hard Star Wars fan!

Just "one of the most" overrated? Which are the other ones? I mean there are only 5 and the later ones have exactly been rated too highly.

And you couldn't be more wrong if you tried. Empire is brilliant.

That's sort of a big contradiction don't you think?

Now hold on. Just because i said it's overrated, and it is, doesn't mean i don't like it. I like ESB but i just don't feel it's the masterpiece people make it out to be. And yes, i am a die hard Star Wars fan!

I think picking your favorite Star Wars flick often depends upon which film the viewer saw first. In my case, I loved Jedi growing up the most because I could remember seeing it in the theater w/ my dad when I was five or six. Since then - I have watched them all thousands of times and I have come to the conclusion that I can't pick a favorite between A New Hope and Empire. A New Hope is the introduction into the Star Wars universe. It introduces us to most of the main characters and sets the story in motion. Empire expanded the Star Wars Universe even further - more locales (Hoth, Dagoba, Bespin), Yoda, gave more info about the Rebel Alliance, Luke and Vader, Boba Fett, Lando, Leia and Han, etc. Its darkness further adds to its appeal - it is truly a different kind of sequel because it does not stick to the proven formula of A New Hope, which was very uncommon for a sequel. I still love Jedi, but I have too come to the conclusion that it didn't add to the Universe much more that Leia was indeed Luke's twin, Vader was definitely Luke's father, and that Lucas over-did his love affair w/ the Ewoks. The Phantom Menace and Clones are right up there w/ Jedi in my opinion (Ewan McGregor is Obi-Wan to me, just as much as Alec Guinness is)- I just wish Lucas would hold back on his urge to use even more CGI. I have also further realized by watching the last two that Lucas should stick to creating the story but he needs to find a director who can coax better performances out of some of his actors. (sorry to crap out here towards the end and stray a little off of the topic of Empire.)

Empire goes hand in hand w/ Star Wars - as many have said, I could pick either one every other day.
