Ok. First off I just saw this film for the first time. And it wasn't the director's cut. It was a VHS tape of my moms (that had never been opened) that I found in the attic while going through boxes last week.

I was one of those naysayers that thought how could any film beat out Goodfellas. Now that I have watched DWW, I can say that this was a good choice. Although I love Goodfellas a lot more AND STILL THINK IT SHOULD HAVE WON.

The cinematography is gorgeous and the acting from everyone (**but I do have a negative comment to express later) is on or above par.

I do not personally agree with everything that is given to us in the film. For example, the Sioux believing every white man was out to get them and finally giving in to the second white man they see (Costner). Wind in His Hair kill Timmons without question, but they decide to save a soldier who they believe will take their land. If I were the Sioux he would be dead right off. That was their goal right? To rid the white men from "taking over" their land.

I did like the comedy bits in the film as well and that made it an all around better film.

**BUT the worst thing about the film was Costner's voiceover. My god. He should never do voiceover again. He spoke too fast and in that drawl of his... and I could barely understand what he was saying. He should be banned from doing voice over work from now on.

Great score, great cinematography, good storyline....

My only gripe is that Costner talks to much at times / know it all.

It's a liberal movie, which is rare that you can sit down and watch with the whole family.

Long story short, this is one of the best movie I've ever seen. Can't wait for the longer version.

The longer version has been out on DVD for over a month now. Or did you mean you can't wait to see the longer version?

Anyway, this is absolutely one of the best films of the '90s IMO.

Well, because I live in Asia and there's not much people looking for older title, I find a hard time to look for its DVD. It's sucks, I know, but I'll get the Director's Cut sooner or later.

It didn't do much for me. I prefer Last of the Mohicans as a film from this era.
