The hooker death in Se7en. Or any of the other 6 for that matter.

Mel Gibson's in Braveheart.

Bathroom scene from Scarface.

Trunk death from Goodfellas.

None of these deaths can touch the torture scene in Ichi the Killer - the dude didn't die, but he probably wishes he had... He was strung up face down horizontally with meathooks stuck through his skin as he had BBQ skewers shoved in his face and then boiling oil poured on his back and head. It was pretty brutal.

I guess the curbing in American History X was pretty bad.

The death scenes in Hellraiser were good as well.

What about the death scene in Brazil where those two guys had their O2 supply replaced with sewage and their biohazard suits filled up with sewage and they drowned?

One of the Creepshows I think featured that Stephen King story about those kids who go out to the middle of the lake and this oil slick chases them around - one kid gets sucked through the boards breaking all his bones. That would suck.

Battle Royale features some fantastic death scenes.

The Isle - some dude swallows a line with fishooks on it and yanks it out... a girl does the same thing with the fishooks, but on a different part of her body :wince:

I guess the absolute worst would have to be from Nightmare on Elm Street series - I'd have to say the chick that turns into a roach in a roach motel has to be the worst of all of em. I hate roaches.

DOWNTOWN - In this Anthony Edwards / Forrest Whitaker cop buddy flick a guy gets tossed into a woodchipper and you see the bloody mess that comes out of the other end.

THE EXTERMINATOR - A mobster is slowly lowered into a giant meat grinder.

That one freaked me out as a kid. You should read the short story (The Raft (?)). It's even more descriptive of that guys death.

You definitely caught the theatrical / uncut version. That was brutal. How the hell did he stay conscious and aware?

I put a vote in for the guy at the end of Nekromantik 2. You think it's your lucky day by getting some and then...

Oh - I read it several times of course. I was a big Stephen King fan when I was like 9 - 14.

Gotta go with Braveheart finale--reportedly historically accurate. Stayed with me a long while.

That's the one where the victim is stabbed
Spoiler:

In A Glass Cage
Spoiler:
the kid having his throat slit and having the guy masturbate while watching him slowly die.

Toxic Avenger
Spoiler:
the kid after having been hit by the car, slowly starts to drag his body across the ground only to see the car reverse and flatten his head. Top it off with the manical girls getting out of the car and taking pictures of the victim.
IMO Troma at it's most vicious.

Men Behind the Sun
Spoiler:
the compression room where the hapless victim has his insides explode out his ass. The autopsy scene of the slicing up the kid on the morgue slab is vomit inducing as well.

Santa Sangre
Spoiler:
the hacking and stabbing of the Tatoo Lady is relentless. The final shot of the machete erupting from her mouth is jaw dropping.

1900
Spoiler:
Donald Sutherland's character repeatingly bashing the kid's head in while swinging him around by his legs is ultra-nasty, add the shots of his character's wife laughing as he savagingly murders the child adds to the unsettling and unprovoked attack

No, I'm referring to the last victim that the ripper killed.
The one you mentioned was nasty as well, but too brief. Where as the last murder just seemed to last a little too long. Uncut version, that is.

I don't know, having that alien burst out of your chest in... Alien... would suck a lot.

Being burned alive then shot in Last of the Mohicans.

The Cube -- guy gets shot with acid and ends up with a nice hold instead of a face. Also, slicing and dicing. Not to mention chopped in half.

I don't know if he died, but Last House on the Left. The chomp chomp BJ. Ouch.

Hmm, plenty more...

A giant piece of glass smashing a 15 year old boy to death.
A woman being decapitated by elevator doors.
A woman's head getting pushed back via an airbag into a sharp board.
A man getting chopped into many pieces via a fence.
A 15 year old boy getting blown to pieces.

Another one from Final Destination:
Spoiler:
A piece of metal takes off a guy's head leaving everything below his mouth still on his head.

Suspiria:
Spoiler:
Not only does a girl get her chest ripped opened then her heart stabbed, she then gets hanged and her best friend is killed via a piece of falling glass while trying to "rescue" her.

Phenomena:
Spoiler:
Blade through the back of the head and comes out of the mouth.

Opera:
Spoiler:
Knife through the neck and out the guy's mouth.
A bullet going through a peep hole and into a woman's head.

Deep Red
Spoiler:
A pearl necklace caught in an elevator decapitating the woman it's attached to.

Tenebre
Spoiler:
Hand getting cut off via an axe.

The Rage: Carrie 2:
Spoiler:
A guy getting his whole entire crotch ripped off due to a spear gun.
A girl's eyes are "poked out" after glass goes into her eyes.
Yes, Argento takes the cake for delivering some of film's most memorable deaths:

Deep Red -
Spoiler:
how could not forget the victim that is dragged behind the car and then his head run over by another car - yuck. Or the teeth bashing sequence

Tenebrae -
Spoiler:
the last victim as she has an axe forced into her back, then has her arm cut, painting the wall, and then is repeatedly axed in the stomach (offscreen) for extra effect

Talking about death by elevator's, how about the one from The Omen II
Spoiler:
where the doctor is cut in half
and The Fly II sequence
Spoiler:
where a guy's head is crushed

Steam blast to the face in Bone Collector
Head in a vice in Casino
Not a death, but two scenes in The Cell were pretty gruesome- nipples getting ripped off (I still cringe) and the intestines being slowly rotated on a spit while still attached to the guy.

Zhang Yi Mou's "Red Sorghum" starring Gong Li.

There is a scene in which the Japanese are attempting to douse a rebellion by Chinese laborers. One of the Chinese tough guys is captured, hoisted onto the hood of a truck and is skinned alive with a big knife.

Offhand, a couple of deaths from two schlocky movies. They stand out because they are unconventional, especially within such routine movies:

-In Forced Vengeance, Chuck Norris takes on a mob boss and his henchmen. In a scene near the end, Norris's girlfriend is being watched over by a friend of his (a big, muscular black guy who looks like he can handle himself) when a gigantic guy bursts in. Norris's friend fights valiantly, but eventually the other guy overpowers him and brutally breaks his back with a bear hug. Then Norris's girlfriend is raped and killed. The scene is not gory, but it's surprisingly disturbing for such hokum.
-In Friday the 13th VI the sheriff (the girl's father) faces Jason and is brought to his knees. Jason bends the cop's midsection backwards until his spine snaps, and his head hits the ground next to his feet.

Suspiria
Spoiler:
The blind guy getting eaten by his own dog.

Seven
Spoiler:
The lust and sloth homicides.

Titus
Spoiler:
Okay, she didn't die till later, but what happened to Lavinia (getting raped, her hands chopped off, her tongue cut out, then cleaned up and put in a white dress with sticks stuck in her stumps where her hands should have been, then posed in a marsh) was pretty brutal and shocking. Her father finally put her out of her misery, so I'd say even though he did the killing, her murderers were really the guys who did that to her.)

The rapists get made into meat pies, which was both disgusting and funny.

1) the multiple stabbings at the beginning of "One False Move".

I also agree about the "curbside" killing in "American History X"

on a more intimate level, I always found the 'death' of Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in "The Abyss" very disturbing, the tension and drowning is powerfully conveined

Man, this thread is harsh. I was going to mention Derek Jacobi getting impaled on a giant pair of scissors in Dead Again, but that doesn't hold a candle to most of the scenes mentioned so far.

Oddly enough, I am surprised that 'Last House on the Left' has hardly been mentioned. Almost all of its deaths are shocking, espically the two young girls.
Maybe it is what occurs before the deaths that makes them so shocking.

The suicide in The Dead Zone, definately the worst suicide.
