Mrs.Nesbit, I've been wanting to ask you. Is the quote in your sig real?

I enjoyed that first scene in Super Troopers as well. For that matter I liked the entire movie and thought it was hilarious. But I liked Novocaine and didn't think it was really supposed to be a comedy, was it?

And Blazing Saddles being on this list is just a crime in my opinion.

"Where all the white women at?" rotfl

But then again, comedy is so subjective somebody is going to say they loved Ishtar and somebody is going to say Airplane! sucked.

caiman 02-03-03 03:33 PM

I rarely see dumb comedies. I find it rather easy to filter out what is and isn't worth seeing based on ads and trailers, and most of these teen gross out comedies are NOT worth seeing. I don't care how much semen or sex jokes there are, they're simply not funny. On that note, here are some of the very few crappy comedies I have seen recently.

Scary Movie
Van Wilder
American Pie 2

Wow, I think that's it.

Want a brilliant comedy? Go see Adaptation.

calhoun07 02-03-03 03:51 PM

Say It Isn't So was just about the most excruciating thing I sat thru that tried to be a comedy.

Alien Redrum 02-03-03 04:27 PM

Scary Movie (both of them)
Something About Mary

Ginwen 02-03-03 04:28 PM

Millions.

My personal hell was Brewster's Millions though, so that's my pick.

Robert 02-03-03 04:31 PM

Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad

The only funny scene is when Frank is holding onto the statue's penis to keep from falling

Ghostface180 02-03-03 05:58 PM

Saving Silverman
Scary Movie 2
Shallow Hal

FaustBos 02-03-03 06:16 PM

Oh I have to chime in on this one.

Exit to Eden 1994 http://us.imdb.com/Title?0109758

Pain+full

Some nonmemorable lines....

Scantily clad boy approaches Rosie odonnel and says
"I'll fulfill your wildest fantasies"

Rosie replies
"Paint my house"-

Its hard to define what is funny, what is comedy etc, but the time and delivery in this film is just consistantly bad.

Man Blazing Saddles? Naked Gun? Something about Mary? Tough crowd :)

I would have to go with Mars Attacks.

Yes it's from an old EGM. Someone on another board had it as a signature and I asked him if it was real. He sent me the image from the magazine. I have since deleted the magazine so unfortunetly my sig MIGHT be a word or two off. But just a word or two.....

Captain Harlock 02-11-03 10:52 AM

Nuns On The Run, absolutely dreadful. You're hard pressed to find a laugh in the whole movie.

Reality Bites. Apparently not as much as that movie did.

Just about any post Caddyshack movie that Chevy Chase has made.

Adam Tyner 02-11-03 10:56 AM

I watched Stealing Harvard last night and didn't laugh once. I'll agree with those who mentioned The New Guy, which was also produced by Revolution Studios.

I really liked Super Troopers, though.

Spanky BananaPants 02-11-03 11:24 AM

Going Overboard (with Adam Sandler) was a painful movie to watch, as was Cabin Boy. I could've done without both.

Robin Hood Men In Tights is the only movie I actually walked out of in the theater because it was so bad I couldn't stand to watch another second.

Spaceballs.

Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein are perfect examples of witty, hilarious spoofs that both know and love the genre they're spoofing, and hit all the right beats. Spaceballs does none of that.

Pizza the Hut.

Holy thread necro, Batman! More than ten years old.

Re: Super Troopers, rented it back in 2005 or so and shut it off after ten minutes because it was so stupid. Got tired of hearing people at work make references to it and rented it again in early 2009 and mostly enjoyed it. It is still pretty stupid in places (stupid as in bad writing), but I also laughed a lot. I still cannot go a month without hearing someone make an "all right meow!" reference or call someone "Farva" behind their back.

I nominate Meet the Parents. Admittedly, I never saw all of it, but after watching a pretty good chunk of it and never even cracking a smile, I shut it off. My wife hated it also.

Spaceballs is not a great movie, but it dropped good lines just often enough for me to keep watching it.
