Kangaroo Jack, Oscar potential for next year?

I'm still baffled that with the success of movies like Lilo & Stich and the Harry Potter franchise, that movie studios still insist on making movies that obviously doubt a child's intellgence.

I'm not certain I understand the premise. They accidentally knock a kangaroo unconscious, then put a jacket on him for laughs. The kangaroo comes to and hops away wearing the jacket, which has an envelope of money in the pocket. The rest of the movie has these nitwits chasing the kangaroo and getting the crap kicked out them in Home Alone style? Is that right?
Like, wow.
Honk!

Charlie, I think you've got it right, except that it's a talking kangaroo. No, I'm not joking.
I don't think anyone should be surprised at this. January-April is when studios typically release films that they think aren't very good and/or won't make much money. There's a number of reasons for this, which I think this article explains well.

Is he really talking? In the preview he only talks after one of them gets hit on the head. I'm thinking this is a big misleading trailer, like the talking dogs in Snow Dogs.

unfortunately, my 3 year old (almost 4) saw an ad for this, and the trailer at "Treasure Planet", and she really wants to see it. Actually, when i asked her what her favorite part of TP was, she said "the kangaroo at the beginning" so it stands to do well with the 4-5 yo demographic anyway

I think Jerry Bruckhiemer is producing it (the Rock, Armageddon, CSI, Pearl Harbor ect)? Would this be one of his first non over the top action flick.

When I saw the preview for this during Harry Potter my first reaction was "oh my god" I actually said it loud enough for a coupel rows to hear me. Now every time I see it I have to resist the urge to run and hide. To think someone actually got paid to write and direct this movie.

While watching the preview, both my wife and I were reminded of the Visa(?) commercial about a horrible movie being made. It ends with the tagline "If it gets made, will you be protected?"
Perhaps they are gauging audience reaction for a possible direct-to-video release?

The trailer is on the film's website, so judge for yourself: http://kangaroojack.warnerbros.com/

Geeze. I admit that I laugh at trailers like "The Hot Chick" and get excited from trailers like "Pearl Harbor". But this trailer didn't make me laugh nor did it get me excited. It made me cry. This wasn't a slap-me-on-the-forehead type deal. This trailer enraged me.
I usually don't post like this, but Bruckheimer has lost it. And mentioning "A Film By David McNally?" Who the **** cares? Stupid egotistical nimrods. He don't even rank as high as McG for crying out loud; and to the other extreme, he's not David Lynch. Are they really going to get people in those seats by saying "From the director of COYOTE UGLY"?

I dunno,
live action movie + talking animal = hollywood gold
Just ask Lucas about the millions he made from Howard the Duck.
