Sadly, a celeb like Ellen has a better shot at getting a nom than Serkis does....

doubt it'll happen, but i think it should. Serkis deserves his oscar more than Halle Barry or Denzel Washington(for Training Day)

Unfortunately, the real impact of Serkis' performance isn't so evident in the Two Towers movie itself, but in the behind-the-scenes footage in the EE DVD. When you watch that material and know that Andy isn't just strolling into a comfortable recording studio and doing some voice acting, that he's physically doing most of the scenes, including scrabbling down a just thawed frozen stream, you realize he's putting in ten times the effort and performance that you see from almost anyone else.
Fortunately, Andy appears in human form in parts of Return of the King, so maybe they'll allow a nomination for that, if not for the Two Towers.

One reason that is keeping Serkis from being nominated is that it would be unfair to just nominate him. The role of Gollum was brought to life by a team of individuals: from the designers, to Serkis himself, to the motion capture guys, to the animators.

Perhaps a "Special Achievement" award could be given.

He does deserve something. I challenge the people who say he doesn't to watch the extras on TTT Ext cut. Until you have, I don't think you understand. Also, I couldn't agree more with the Denzel-Halle thing. What was so great about Denzel's Training Day performance? Looked like a million other things he's done. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good actor, but he's done much better work than that. As for Halle, she got it for having sex. Her Dorothy Dandridge role was much better.

Well, same goes for all the other possible nominees then. I challenge you to research what THEY did for THEIR roles. Who's to say Serkis is the only one who worked his butt off?
