Rosa Klebb used it to kill in From Russia, With Love.
Some other ones I noticed:
Thunderball: Bond picking a grape off a patient's table in the Los Organos Clinic.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service: Psuedoscience clinic used as a front for enemy activity.
Diamonds are Forever: Graves says "Diamonds are for everyone," at the Blades club.
The Man with the Golden Gun: MI6 headquarters located in a ship in Hong Kong.
The Spy Who Loved Me: Graves parachuting in with the Union Jack.
Goldeneye: Man with facial deformity caused by Bond.

To me worst Bond movie, took the title away from LIVING DAYLIGHTS.
Worst title song & opening title images of a Bond movie.
Anybody notice the computer airbrushing on Maddona's face?
The cast was very good, good acting on everybody.
The stunts were c.g.i., which didn't give that take your breath away feel.
The ending with Bond & Moneypenny is one of the best Bond moments ever.

here is my 2 cents.
i thought the movie was good for what it was meant to be: an entertaining action movie with hot women. it had some amazing action scenes, awesome cars, stuff blowing up, etc. my 2 biggest complaints.
all in all, if u are looking for good action, special affects, sound mixed with the traditional bond stuff, it is a good one to see.

I've enjoyed all Bond films to some extent. I'm a little concerned that the movies are getting to be too much. I don't mind some over the top stunts, special effects, or plot devices, but this movie was full of them. It makes it more cartoonish, than adventure like.
Pick any two and that would be okay with me. The car chase is one of the funnest I've seen in a long time. Those poor cars at the beginning of the movie though....
I think it was creative to put Bond in a more compromising position. It reminds us what he is all about. I think the plot is better than most others. Halle Barry was okay; fortunately not all that everyone expected her to be. There were some nice plot twists that I didn't follow at first.
This was the first time I heard Madonna's song. I don't especially like it, but it sort of worked with the film and opening title sequence. As some mentioned earlier in this thread, I enjoy the "grander" songs with orchestra and all.
Certainly not a movie to miss, but for me, it's about an average to above average Bond film. Just tone down some of the exotic facts that we have to accept in one movie.

That was GONE in this one, replaced by WEAK CGI.

I couldn't agree more. I enjoyed the movie but I would hardly call it one of the best Bonds. The Paraskiing scene looked so fake and save the cloaking devices for Star Trek.

Saw DAD in a packed theater on Saturday night. I think Roger Ebert's rating of 3 stars out of 4 was about right. I came out of the theater enjoying it more than the last 2 Bond movies, although both of those got better for me upon replay because I was able to follow the action scenes in the 2nd half better. Especially TND. My wife, who is not the Bond fanatic that I am, thought it was OK but dragged during the Ice Palace scenes. I thought Halle Berry's character was mostly pretty good, but some of her deliveries could have been better. I thought the Madonna song was terrible for the first few notes, but then seemed to work better as the title sequence went on. I like Rosamund Pike's character a lot. Judi Dench was awesome again and John Cleese is probably the best replacement possible for Q.
For the next Bond I'd like to see:
More European based. Bond must be in a casino. More dialog, less action.
The perfect Bond movie is still to be made.

Although I'm ambivalent to the theme song for this movie, they've always tried to represent the popular music at the time. Granted, today there is a wide variet of music types and as for what is popular, you look at the charts, but not everyone likes the type of music that is popular.
What have been some of your favorite theme songs from Bond? I'm probably the only one to post this so far, but I like the song The Spy Who Loved Me.

Well, the problem was that they picked Madonna, not that it was a techno song. I just wished they had picked relative unknown Allison Goldfrapp (WinMX/Kaazaa/Gnutewhatever for her songs "Human" "Paper Bag" or "Lovely Head"), who would've done the Bond franchise proud.
I thought the movie was good, and I think that some of the over-the-top ness (especially the surfing iceberg scene) was to combat the radiculousness in xXx.
A will-buy on DVD.

On the good side, I really liked Madonna's theme song, and I don't like Madonna.
On the bad side.....I used to think the low points of the Bond movies were either Roger Moore snowboarding to the "California Girls" song, or maybe Jaws and the nerdy girl falling in love in Moonraker-----but then I saw a CGI Brosnan para-sailing. People complain about the later Moore pictures as being "cartoonish"? This scene was almost LITERALLY a cartoon. I thought the first half of this movie was OK, but the second half was really horrible, IMO. As others have mentioned, too much of everything, so that you just couldn't appreciate any of it. I like things like the world-record speedboat jump in Live and Let Die, or the world record bungee jump in Goldeneye----where the camera lingered and focused on the incredible stunt---and they were believable and exciting because real people were really doing them. They could have done a really cool action scene/chase with those ice-racers, instead they turn it into Attack of the Clones.
I liked Halle Barre a lot, John Cleese, and in fact most of the cast was fine. I just get the feeling that the director is not really a serious Bond fan, as he had all the required elements, but just didn't put them together with any subtlety. There's always been a fine line between cool and silly in the Bond movies, but for me, the car going underwater in Spy Who Loved Me was cool, the car being completely invisible was just dumb.
I thought Brosnan started out great with Goldeneye, and TWINE had its moments, but this series needs a major change of direction----in much the same way For Your Eyes Only brought the character back to Earth from some of the excesses that had begun to appear in the series.

The non-stop action in the last half was a bit different, but it worked for me.
I don't know why some of you seem to have so much of a proble with the cloaked car...I thought that was pretty cool. The bad part was the video game like feel that it developed when it was temporarily disabled and had that countdown timer to when it was repaired.
elektra...skilled Greek assassin, and great taste in music!

Blade - honorable paladan from eastern lands, good to see you about.
Thank you, one tries. Yea, I liked the car too and that's saying a lot because I'm not much of a beamer fan. I liked the twin carbines on the front which pretty much could take out anything incoming in no time.
Patman - I like Live and Let Die as well. McCartney rocks!
The ice palace was what I found to be kind of cheesy. If I were stuck in that place with Brosnan, I can guarantee you that place would have melted quickly.

By the way, was there a Heineken ad before the movie featuring John Cleese? If you saw it, you'll know it. I thought it was one of the highlights of the film.
Some really bad lines but made up with some action sequences. For CGi... I don't know. I guess Bond is trying to reach out to a new audience, and stunts don't cut it anymore. They also overdid the fencing jokes about getting the point, and some of the dialogue was awful.
I also thought Miss Frost was hot.

Just got back from my second viewing, and I liked it even better the second time around. So many nods to previous films that I wanted to look again.
I DO like the theme song, still humming it in fact.
One of the best Bonds in years, and I've seen 'em all, numerous times.
As for the earlier post about the change in the opening gun barrel sequence, the change is that the bullet is seen coming toward the viewer.

Saw it, and speaking as a HUGE Bond fan- I really don't like Die Another Day.
I don't have a huge problem with the title song- The Man With the Golden Gun was worse.
I don't have a problem with the crazy stunts and invisible car- you find these crazy things in many Bond movies.
I don't have a problem with the skiing scene- well, it looked awful but just take a look at the Connery movies... not too different there.
My main problem: Did they just run out of frickin' ideas? Or did they think that noone out there remembers Diamonds Are Forever? Homages are fine- the one to Ursula Andress's entrance, the old gadgets, etc- but jeez... a satellite weapon made from diamonds? What the hell were they thinking? In fact, the whole movie is a collection of themes from before.... others that haven't been mentioned: the mirror room in the gene lab looked like a scene from The Man With the Golden Gun, and appearance alteration has been used in Diamonds Are Forever. At least they didn't tie a parachute to the back of the Ferrari and Lamborghini when they bailed out of the plane at the end- then I'd be really pissed.
I know it's hard to find new gadgets and stunt sequences for a movie franchise that's been around for 40 years and 20 movies, but pulling all those items from the archives and using them in the same movie just doesn't appeal to me.
Richard Roeper on Ebert and Roeper was complaining about how unbelievable the stunts were, and that the satellite laser was too incredible..... has this guy seen the old 007 movies? I'd think reusing a MAJOR weapon from a previous 007 film as well as a host of other re-appearances would be a more legitimate grudge against the film.
Trash.

Autotelik - It is the 20th Bond film, and the 40th anniversary of the franchise. I don't think they reused plot elements and setpieces because they ran out of ideas; rather, the whole film is an homage to the whole series, and a summation of the past 40 years. This isn't the norm for the series, rather a special milestone. I bet that just sounds like a lame excuse to you, but I don't think Bond 21 will be the same way.

Hmmm.... okay. I kind of believe that a bit, given the unusualness of the movie (gun barrel opening was different, title sequence was different.... and so on).....
i'd be a lot more forgiving if there was a press release or something saying that this is supposed to be a *special* kind of 007 movie- something that acknowledges all the rehashes rather than tacitly accepting their being thrown at us. but so far, i haven't read a review that mentions/comments on the extensive reuse of elements from previous Bond films.
I just feel letdown, especially when I hold the Bond franchise with a very high regard.

I really liked DAD. Regardless of what you think of Madonna and Halle (thought Madonna song worked great, cameo not too painful, Halle was less than impressed with), for the first time, all of these elements are bringing excitement to a Bond flick again. A feeling I haven't really witnessed since maybe Goldeneye-- to a lesser degree.
What a blessing to MGM that the cast Ms. Berry. Sure lots of the CGI was funny looking, Bond parachuting a ice tsunami, yeah yeah, but I just chalked that up to the usual Bond cheekiness. Car thing was well done (can you remember when a Z3 was actually a Bond car? cripes!) Brosnan seems more assured of the role, and his aging is actually a benefit I think. And maybe it's just me personally, since I haven't seen many posts about this but wow Rosamund Pike/Miranda Frost. Don't know why she was in a sports bra at the end sequence, but thanks Lee!
Also, to add to the Bond references, I thought this one was quite easy to spot-- when the diamond faced guy was looking in his pda cellphone thing to figure out Bond's identity it says License(d?) to Kill right on his profile.
