On one hand, it was kinda fun, it a campy way, but on the other it was rather dull in the middle. First half could have used some trimming, but the final 30 mins was fun. Was it a good movie? Not really. Would I recommend to anyone? No.
I think people need to lay off CGI. Was it spectacular, no, but atleast it wasn't SciFi channel or DTV bad. The hyena's were better looking than the wolves in Day After Tomorrow. The loud noises or fake jump scares were a little obnoxios, but oh well. what could ever rival Freidkin's film? Atleast this wasn't "Heretic" bad. Worst movie of the summer? Hell no, did everyone forget Catwoman???
Just an average raping of a horror franchise.

Call me crazy but I would have rather had money to see this again than have seen Village or Avp once. I thought the movie had a good story and plot. Everything made sense when you think about it and although some stuff was a bit cheesy, the movie was a pretty good sit.

This probably had the most "startle" scares than any other movie I've seen.
Other than that, not very scary although it did pick up it's languid pace at the end for a few minor chills.
One thing I still don't understand
Spoiler:
This is the devil, or at least a very powerful demon. Why was it only pushing or punching? Lucifer fights like a sissy-mary.

I hate these movies that have these loud noises in them with nothing really happening on screen.
This seemed to have started with horror movies after SILENCE OF THE LAMBS was a hit.
And this EXORCIST:THE BEGINING is full of them along with video game looking cgi.
And this movie will ruin the actress's sex appeal who was in GOLDENEYE (don't want to reveal why).

I guess I'm a sicko, but it didn't ruin it for me.

Saw it today just to see if it was as bad as some have said... It wasnt all that bad. Its far from being as good as 1 or 3 but its better than 2. I would buy it on DVD if it has Schraders version, I am curious to see how much different it is.

This film really wasnt all that scary. The only jump that I kinda got was at the well scene. It was also cool to see the actor who played "Brick Top" in Snatch, didnt expect to see that nut in the movie. He sure got it good too in the film, icky.

Also when this comes out in some sort of boxset dvd with all the movies one is going to have to watch this one 1st.
And if no one has seen the original it will ruin some of the scary parts, because it uses a lot of the scray parts from the original.

No. What he means I think is the exorcism in this movie and the scares involved with the exorcism mimic (very poorly) those of the first film.

Funny, I consider AVP bad/bad and Once Upon a Time in Mexico good/bad. Exorcist: The Beginning is shit/shit.

I thought AVP was Good/Bad, OUTIM was bad/bad and Exorcist was good/bad. Its all just a matter of tastes... see it and decide foryouself.

I thought it was decent. Of course, the effects were weak in places, and the story and editing were a bit choppy. But Stellan Skarsgard made a solid Merrin, there were some creepy moments and interesting concepts, and the last twenty minutes were quite solid. Not a rave review, I realize, but also not the flaming bag of poo that the critics were making it out to be. I am, however, more intrigued than ever at the idea of having this alongside Schrader's version on DVD, to see whether Harlin's film is dumbed down or just unpretentious.

The scariest scenes for me involved the Nazis especially shooting the little girl

Not a bad movie but not a patch on the original, endings was pretty good and scary

The blood and gore for the most part didn't really help serve the movie or story. The violence in the fight between the soldiers and the tribe was 100% gratituous.

I would definitely love to see the original director's more subtle version.
