thats the way i feel abou the one they just released. nothing really compelling here..all deriviative.
was excited reading the item on AICN, but what i'm seeing so far, doesn't do it for me.
and yeah, all the costume changes (elektras, bullseye) are dispiriting.
while they alone don't make for a compelling movie, you are still denutering one of the most potent pleasures of comics.
they aren't the real world.
thats half the fun.

It will, the director's already come out and said so....but there'll also be an unrated directors cut when the thing hits DVD.

As for the Kinpen thing.....you know, some people (fanboys) just get really upset at stuff like that.....but they still go see the movie.

That'd be like making a "Where's Waldo?" movie and having Denzel Washington play Waldo! It could work, but it's not the Waldo of literature! Then everytime Kingpin comes onto the screen, you're going to be like "This is only a movie." and probably not enjoy it as much.

But Michael Duncan is good, so I'm sure he'll keep you engaged in the movie. It just doesn't jive with what we know about Kingpin.

At least he's bald!

In all seriousness, thats the consensus of most of the self-proclaimed "purists" in this forum.

Your in the same boat with Kevin Smith. Hell Kevin Smith even wrote DD for a while, and if Smith can go on his own web-site and back Aflecks performance of the man without fear, then Im all for this movie. Im very excited about this movie and hope it turns out very well.
Actually, I think Smith probably helped Affleck get the role. The two are best friends. Affleck's been in Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob, and will be in Jersey Girl. Smith is a huge Affleck supporter, and I don't think he'd ever criticize the guy.

That said, the movie looks great in my opinion. I usually enjoy Affleck in his "real" movies (not a big fan of Michael Bay). I really like Favreau and Colin Farrell, and Jennifer Gardner looks fantastic and like a good Elektra. Finally, can't go wrong with Joe Pantoliono. I loved the DareDevil comic as a kid, and I'm excited for this film. It should be a much darker film than Spider-Man.

Well why didn't they just get Smith to head up this project. He's obviously got a feel for the character and the story. He could write his own treatment of the script and direct it himself. Given his past relationship with DD and Affleck i'm curious as to why he's not at the helm.

Waldo of literature.

You kill me LB.

I like the trailer. It looks pretty good. But then again, I don't mind Affleck movies.

riiiiiiiiiiiiiight this is why he bashed his performances in Pearl Harbor, Reindeer Games, Forces of Nature, Armageddon, and Phantoms. Or did you happen to miss all those jabs at him in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back?

ok i just watched the trailer again, and suddenly im really excited about this movie. some of the stunts look a little derivative (I see a matrix move in there, which is pretty weak), some looks of goofy cgi (i.e. the fan move) and some of it looks really cool (the building jumps).

i REALLY cant wait to see duncan throw affleck around (you can see him in a 'wife-beater' throwing DD against the ceiling there). farrel looks a bit stupid but i have ZERO doubt he's gonna pull it off and be awesome.

This is funny... EVERY time a comic movie comes out, every fanboy comes out whining that it's not an exact copy. Well, get used to it. This is Hollywood, not Marvel Comics. They're gonna make a movie that the average american will like, not the movie that every pimply teenager or fat guy living in mom's basement will love. All they do is use the comics for inspiration and make it their own, and that's the way it SHOULD be.

Personally, I think the movie looks great and I could care less what color the Kingpin is supposed to be, cuz Duncan will do a great job. I don't care about how Daredevil and Electra really met because this is a 90 minute movie that has to get the point across quickly and doesn't have the luxury of 100 back issues to explain every little detail.

I'm gonna see this movie because the trailer makes it look like it'll be good. That's all.

I can't believe they used "let the bodies hit the floor" in another trailer, I guess "click click boom" was taken.

Looks lame. I think if there was a different lead and a different director it would look more appealing.

Good thing too, any movie that uses "click click boom" in there ads/trailers gets an automatic pass in my book.
