It was good, but it's one of those over-rated on the 'net movies, like Seven or Fight Club

I started the sequential cut with the intention of just watching a few minutes, to see how the editing was handled. I didn't think I'd be interested in this version, because it would remove what was so unique about "Memento."

I was wrong. I ended up watching the whole thing and found it to be nearly as entertaining as the theatrical version of the movie. It was like watching the same events from a different angle. Some scenes had completely different and unexpected emotional payoffs because you were watching them armed with different knowledge.

I must say, a very nice compliment to the original theatrical version of "Memento."

Please don't watch "Memento." Just sell it. I don't mean to flame, but anyone who would buy a DVD they thought looked dull is not going to watch the movie with the right attitude.

Definitely overrated. Zero rewatchability. Return it and get your refund.

I'd say that it's a good movie, but doesn't live up to it's hype. Don't let that stop you from viewing the film though because it's better than most of the movies that have been coming out lately.

I must say, that many people just don't want to work to understand Memento.

It is an excellent movie in that it holds water regardless of how it is viewed (original or chronological). It ranks right behind Pulp Fiction a near masterpiece of screenwriting, acting, and editing.

My opinion is that the lazy minded people who hate Memento, would rather watch Armageddon or Speed five times in a row while high-fiving each other after the credits.

My opinion is that a lot of people like Memento because they have low self esteem and it makes them feel better about themselves because they like a "smart" movie such as Memento rather than a "dumb" movie such as Speed.

Okay, with the ad hominem attack out of the way, I'll just say that, IN MY OPINION, Memento is an entertaining movie the first time, but not worth watching more than once unless you didn't "get it" the first time. I saw it in the theater, enjoyed it, received the DVD as a gift and couldn't watch it again. I was bored senseless and started channel surfing.

As long as you remember that you're just watching the extras for a movie, and not the movie itself, it's terrific. Firstly, it will solidify your understanding of the actual events, and help you decide what you think has really happened in the backstory... Secondly, you see all kinds of little behaviours and references to just-past events that you're unlikely to notice, even after repeated viewings, in the story's original presentation.

Almost, but not exactly. I am sorry to inform you that an ad hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of person making the claim, her circumstances, or her actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting).

Step two was never achieved.

OK, I prefer to not get into a flame war with anybody, so, no matter what, this is my last post on the matter. But anyway, ad hominem generally refers to debunking an argument by attacking the arguer, rather than the argument. I used the term jokingly and loosely, at any rate. My point was, essentially, that people like or dislike movies for all variety of reasons, usually related to a thing called personal taste. To make general assumptions and insults about a group of people based on their taste in movies cuts both ways. It's easy for one person to say, "You like movie A, I like movie B. Movie A is simplistic, therefore, you like simplistic films and don't like 'difficult' films." The problem with this argument is there's always someone out there who likes more 'difficult' films than you. If you want to play "Who's the Bigger Film Geek" I'll be happy to indulge you, but at another time and in another place.

That said, I get really tired of people who pat themselves on the back because of their high opinion of their own tastes.

I do not consider Memento to be a movie that requires any "work" at all. Movies that I would put into that category would be My Dinner with Andre, Mulholland Drive, Andrie Rublev, Henry V; all for different reasons.

I would have no trouble cracking a few beers, kicking back, and enjoying the hell out of Memento -- much like I would Armageddon or Speed (Which I also enjoy).

Yes, it's obvious you're trying to avoid a flame war.

Wow someone thinks highly of his opinion. I didn't like Memento. It seemed to me to be style over substance. Highly overrated. Yes I like Speed more than Memento. Does that make me retarded? Speed wasa fun movie. Memento wasn't IMO. If you liked Memento more than any movie thats fine, more power to ya. But dont go on your rant of how only smart people like it and if you dont like it you're stupid.

I like both Speed and Memento. In fact, I just got both from Columbia House. I like both of those movies better than Pulp Fiction, as a matter of fact.

You probably don't care, though.

It's very original, wouldn't hurt to watch it. If you understand it very well the first time around, it's a great punch at the end of the movie once everything falls into place.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention Columbia House

I like Speed and Memento so I guess I am a smart dumb person or is that a dumb smart person

I think it is an interesting movie to see and i would suggest most people at least rent it to get a taste of it

Since everyone is talking about it, I loved Speed as well. It was such a fun movie. Both Memento and Speed were good movies, but in their own particular way.

I liked Memento on first viewing, even though it did not live up to it's hype. It really isn't difficult to understand, it is not a movie that needs "work" to understand at all. I have yet to rewatch it and I've been 'meaning' to pick up the SE since it came out.

It is definitely worth atleast one watch. It was good for what it was.

And for the record I don't like Speed... even though I like Keanu at points in his career ("i love you to death" being one).

I liked Memento. But I like Rounders more, and Royal Tenenbaums. Which are less "thinking movies" -- personally I think Seventh Seal is more a thinking movie, and Memento is a very well-made parlor trick.

I liked it but I'm not falling over myself to praise it.

It seemed that most people liked it because the movie was backwards. Its like "Wow that was backwards. SO COOL." Does it make you think because its backwards? Also i felt it kind of cheated with the ending(or should I say beginning). Do if you are watching it for the first time watch it forwards first. Then you will see it for how it is and not as some novelty.
