I agree, and am glad to have this fine film [They Shoot Horses, Don't They?] in my collection.
...
But I do want to recommend everyone to see Last Summer. It is a little film, but packs a punch at the end. The blonde chick was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress...when back then...most people actually deserved the nod, IMO.
And I agree right back at ya. Last Summer is a great little film. With Barbara Hershey, Richard Thomas (!), Bruce Davison and Catherine Burns, the Oscar nominated blonde chick.

A rich, fascinating and ultimately dark story of four teens based on the novel by Evan Hunter (Ed McBain of 87th Precinct fame).

I had forgotten that The Oblong Box and Scream and Scream Again were released in 1969. At least I'll remember that they'll be released on DVD in a double feature on August 27th

not sure when it was released in the U.S., but according to the IMDB, it was released in the Societ Union in 1969:

so it gets my vote:

Closely followed by 'The Wild Bunch'.

Well, I can't close this one yet like I've been doing recently because it's very close. Lots of classics (although the opinions on many of them vary greatly from one film geek to the next). So far,

1) The Wild Bunch (7 votes)
2) Midnight Cowboy (5.5 votes)
3) Andrea Rublev / Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid / On Upon a Time in the West (all tied with 4 each)

Keep the votes coming!

It's tough to choose between the Westerns. I think I'll pick Once Upon a Time in the West over Wild Bunch and True Grit.
