Did anybody notice a couple of scenes where Gwyneth Paltrow's character was the focal point of the scene, the background music is from Charlie Brown's Christmas. I find it so wierd...it cracks me up.

And props to Buena Vista and Criterion for putting together a great package. Watching "With the Filmmaker" gives you such a great insight into Anderson and his attention to detail. The hours he spends putting together something that'll be on screen for 8-10 seconds is mind-boggling.
The radio program about the paintings in Eli house is great. I was amazed that the artist credited for creating one of the paintings didn't actually paint it.
The interviews also offer some interesting insight. After watching the other extras, it's not even a suprise when Paltrow says Anderson already knows what music is going to be playing in the montages when they're shooting.
On topic, I laughed the whole movie while my wife thought it was just sad and depressing. The humor is brilliant and subtle - and the movie rewards the viewer who watches it with as much attention to detail as it was made.

Dudley should have had more screen time. I'm looking forward to watching this film again. It seems the majority thinks it gets better upon repeat viewings.

I was mildly disappointed in TRT the first time I saw it. Not because it wasn't good, but because I loved Rushmore so much, and was hoping for something along those lines.
Now that I've seen it a few more times on DVD, I'm seeing just how much of a genius Wes Anderson is. The one thing that really impacts me about TRT was just how much it's affected my relationship with my three kids.
I'm sure that if I watch it when I'm older and my boys have families of their own, it'll impact me on a completely different level.

I loved this movie as well. It worked on several comedic levels which I enjoy. Much of the humor was very dark and dry ( Kinda like a Vonnegut book.) While having other parts, very goofy and slapstick as well. ( Gene Hackman's character and his interactions with his servant, who I forgot his name...those scenes are classic)

I love this film more and more every time I see it. It's hard for me to say whether I like this or Rushmore better as there are a great many things to love about Rushmore (haven't seen Bottle Rocket yet). So many favorite scenes and quotes in TRT.
Eli: "Everybody knows that Custer died at Little Big Horn...My book presupposes...what if he didn't?" -- This line had me rolling on the floor with laughter; it's such a silly premise for a book but Eli talks about it as if it's a really intellectual topic to write a book about.
I definitely think Wes Anderson's style of humor is not something that the majority of people will get or understand. It's dry; it's definitely subtle, and several things will take a few viewings to catch.

Yeah, there's a lot of subtle stuff that's quite hilarious that people will miss or either not connect with. I'm glad Wes Anderson's able to draw such talent and make these really great films. I look forward to his next project, whatever it may be.
Eli trying to be intellectual is very funny.

In case you haven't been to Anderson's site, here's a link to some info on his next movie. I can't wait for it. All 3 of his movies are in my top 5 (The Big Lebowski & Vanilla Sky being the other 2). His humor fits me perfectly and the music is always incredible too.
