Kill Bil Vol 1 DTS

Of cours all of the best examples are going to be from films your wife is unlikely to find tremendously appealing. If that were the case, she wouldn't need a demo in the first place.

Maybe a concert like Eagles Hell Freezes Over DTS or Sting: Brand New Day Tour?

Why don't people just take "so and so" to their local electronics store where there is always a surround sound scenario set up with choice demos scenes of some of the best examples in just a few minutes?

for hero, put in chapter 5 in the Region 0 dts dvd. also, battle royale 5.1 sounds great, if you can handle it.

"Older" releases still rule for me: U-571, T-2: UE, Air Force One

More wife friendly choices may be: Bug's Life/Toy Story (I/II)/Finding Nemo, Moulin Rouge

The Flaming Lips: Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots DVD-A - Hands down, the most amazing surround mix that you're going to hear (of course, you need to be DVD-A ready).

But, if you need a movie, any of the above will do fine... I'm also partial to Das Boot Superbit - DTS track (pick one of the damaged sub scenes, the dripping water sounds like it's right in your lap) and FOTR EE - DTS Track.

For a good sub workout, U-571 is probably your best bet.

For a more subtle approach, the DTS track on Se7en Platinum Series.

Actually, I liked that thread . . . it is the first one that really gave me a feel for the personality of this forum. I'm still here, so obviously I didn't take it too hard.

I always use the DTS version of Pearl Harbor and I go straight to the scene of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Thanks for the tips so far... I may have to pick up U571 to hear what your are all talking about. But more likely Master and Commander in this case.

There is nothing like FOTR and TT in DTS-ES. With a good system this sound will challenge the best theaters (leaving alone front-only systems)

FOTR it is... and will likely put in Master and Commander not long after that...

Thanks!

I have the 60th anniversary edition of this DVD and the DD track DESTROYS the DTS one in this particular case. It's not even close. Not sure about the other editions but the DTS track here is slightly muddy in comparison and the LFE is completely neutered. The DD track hits like an anvil when the U.S.S. Arizona gets bombed. It's one of my favorite demo tracks. Too bad the movie itself is crap.

This is the DVD that got me going back and doing a lot more A/B comparisons between DD and DTS. Pretty surprising how many DD tracks have noticably lower extension in the LFE department. Even big releases like the LOTR's series, although the difference isn't anywere near what's present on Pearl Harbor. It's only noticable in a few spots. The DTS tracks on those tend to be very slightly crisper so it's a trade off on what you like I guess.

Best single SOUND demo 'moment' (with times please)?

Hi all, been a while since I posted on here so it's good to be back x

Moving house soon, at last I'll have the space and a detached place to truly crank up the speakers.

RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE! What I'm looking for are the Forum's latest, best single 'moments' to use to demo my system with (full on DTS system, sub, cool speakers etc etc)

IE: a moment that lasts a few seconds, and makes people go ... Wow ....

Would love exact times or at least exact moments .. ie: not just 'the whole first 20 mins of Saving Private Ryan' but 'the moment when ...' .. I've read all the DTS / sound / DD type threads, and am just noting down the MOMENTS that really do it (eg: when the buffalo stampede in Dances With Wolves DTS ed, or when the dragon flies in circles around Dennis Quaid in the field, in Dragonheart ...)

Please, good people, any suggestions?

Attack of the Clones.

I think it's chapter 26, or 28. The seismic charges explosion that Ben Burtt describes as a 'sonic black hole', and then expands from front to back, and gives the sub a good workout.
