crayoncollectorusa 's bid has been cancelled. The auction is back to $5.63. Whoever did that, it just needed to be set back to normal again. I hate zero rating bidders. ;)

- Haven't sold anything for awhile. Apparently when a bid comes in the "Buy It Now" option just disappears. News to me. Thought it stayed there as an option throughtout an auction? Goodness gracious there is no cap on this auction!

Seems fair. So, would we pay 1/3 or 1/4? ie Top 3 + seller? (Reason I ask is that way we all know ahead of time what we're looking at and saves problems at the end).

As for what I do if someone else wins the bidding war outside of us? That's a thinker. "Buy it Now" has both a good and bad side. It will act as the bookmark it was intended to be should this auction continue how it is going. On the other hand it may cause someone to insanely jump in and buy it. That's a hard one to explain to someone.
I'd say if someone's stupid enough or ill-informed enough to make a stupidly high bid then let them. If you set the Buy It Now at (say) $150, [and we make sure we don't use the feature], then I'd let them go for that amount.

This is hilarious.

Wouldn't it be funny if the guy had a case of them? He'd be thinking he's rich.

Okay this auction ends on the 20th... so how about we regulate the flow of bidding a bit? We can be certain the price doesn't skyrocket and that too many bidders don't spoil the soup:

Mon July 14 ebay member ID's A - E slowly bid it up to $25
Tue July 15 ebay member ID's F - J slowly bid it up to $50
Wed July 16 ebay member ID's K - O slowly bid it up to $75
Thurs July 17 ebay member ID's P - T slowly bid it up to $100
Fri July 18 ebay member ID's U - Z slowly bid it up to $125
Sat July 19 14th and 15th bidders get it up to $150
Sun July 20 16th - 18th bidders get it up to $200

Final hour of auction: Free for all for those who dare to enter as the top 3 bidders and split ebay fees.

...just a suggestion.

jadasion 07-14-03 02:09 AM

oh my god, this has got to be one of the craziest threads ever

We need to have some of those outside the letters bid outside their 'day' as we want it to look like some of those who made a speculative bid come back as they're monitoring the auction.

And all vowels place a follow-up bid outside your day!

...or something. What a complex thread.

look4sheep 07-14-03 03:17 AM

I will be suspicious of all new members. I can't believe nobody has tipped this guy off yet.

einTier 07-14-03 08:39 AM

Indeed.

Brain Stew 07-14-03 08:50 AM

I was going to bid it up a couple of dollars, but dek set a steep maximum bid, so whatever.

I agree that it might look better if no one bid more than a few increments higher than the current bid. That way it will look like one of those bidding wars where people keep going at each other to get the high bid. I love it when people do this, bidding 10 times each, and then a sniper comes in at the end. They know they can cuz the other bidders have proven that they only bid a little higher than the current bid.

Short of a retraction I guess that's not possible for a little while. What's your top bid Dek?

Preacher 07-14-03 09:00 AM

Good lord, do we now have a conspiracy theory to add to this thread?

- I see Dek is not retracting his bid this time. ;)

Venusian 07-14-03 09:43 AM

Yes. All pointy tipped. Now go away.

:p

rotfl

Someone should keep an eye on you.

- Dek retracted his bid again.
"Seller changed the description of the item." You are a huge liar, I did no such thing.

Venusian 07-14-03 09:56 AM

i was gonna leave the pointy tips line out, but then i thought you might freak and cancel the auction or something so I ahd to thrown you a bone

Brain Stew 07-14-03 09:59 AM

haha! The crayons are mine!

Buford T Pusser 07-14-03 09:59 AM

When an item gets a high number of bids it gets a HOT next to it. Does that still happen and how many bids to get it?

I can just see this auction getting notoriety like all of those oddball ones where people forward them and people start threads at places like this.

Yeah. What if another forum decides to bid in this auction and play a trick on us?!?!

Feneant 07-14-03 10:02 AM

Bah, I bid a couple of days too early (F is too close to E)

we will know who owns the leading bids near the end.. and most people wont gamble with their feedback, to play a joke.. if they try, the bids can be cancelled.. and worst case, you can always dispute ebay fees if someone runs up a bidding intentionally

or better yet.. if he doesnt have a case of them.. but he knows they sell them at big lots.. so he is going to go stock up before big lots sells out!!

Groucho 07-14-03 10:16 AM

From ebay: "The burning match means an
item has received more than 30
bids. It's a hot one!" http://pics.ebay.com/aw/pics/lst/hot.gif
