Good idea with using Limewire, but i think a good majority of us need to put our graphic-filled heads together and come up with something mutually agreeable.
Then everyone would be happy.....

Are you referring to the "Double Feature" DVD? If so, I have it and could scan it for you.

It was I who was doing the Nikita cover.

Though sadly, no one ever was able to get me the back scan, and I haven't been able to complete it. If someone DOES have a back scan then I will finish it though...

I still like the idea of having one main central site and having links to various satellite sites.

And maybe there could be a cover printing service or something (like whats offered on that one site...i forget the name).

I'm sure some of us wouldnt mind paying to have some covers printed if it was going to help keep a good archive of custom covers online.

I think the thumb nail site idea is best, but the fileshare one is good too, and both should be used...

In the event that someone makes a cover, and have no space to host it, then someone else will have to host it, or the link could be to the person's details. (email addy, ICQ UNI, ect.)

Here is what we should do, have one central site that has a collection of thumbnails. Then everyone can share them on kazaalite. There could even be a link on the site to download kazaalite (make sure to get kazaaspeedup too!) then we could have tags on the cover files that are number codes. so people looking for them will find them. I for one am online ALL THE TIME and I have a university connection, so I would be willing to host them until everyone else gets them downloaded.
Just a suggestion

Another option...

Another option would be to post the covers to a news server... Almost all web access comes with some access to a newsserver that is local to the ISP... Then the creators of covers will post them once, and the news network will distribute them to all the other newsservers, where they should be around for at least a few days for people to get before they expire...

it is hardly as convenient as a web server, but it's an efficent thing bandwidth wise...

Maybe we can do something along the lines of an MIRC chat room where one person serves the covers?

Jason, are you still working on those alternate covers for your Friday the 13th collection? I would love to get the "I Love NY" version for Part 8.

Cover designers can make the covers available by whatever means they choose - be it by an FTP, File Sharing Utilities, Chat File Sharing, Usenet, E-Mail attachments... but they should all be showcased on one website with alphabetized and indexed thumbnail samples, along with information how to obtain. Multiple download methods could be specified for each cover if the author desires. As soon as customcoverart.com or dvdcoverart.com get back on their feet, we should start working on it. There could even be mirrors of the main site, in case one of them should go down. The site's bandwidth would require viewing of all the thumbnail files, but even those could be restricted to separate links, so not all of them would be accessed each time. Sound like a plan?

Somebody should apply for an alt.binaries.pictures.dvd.covers.custom group. But how many new internet users are familiar with decoding binaries off newgroups?

Could someone maybe post a summary of all the various E.T. covers that have been made, or are in the works?
Thanks.

Sounds good to me. I wouldnt have to limit thumbnail views at all. According to my last viewing of my site stats, Downloading of the covers accounted for 80% of my bandwidth usage. Thumbnails, no matter how many would not be a problem at all for my site....I am getting upset from not having it back up yet and may have to go with yet another host....But no matter what it will be back up within this month...

BizRodian: Your e-mail never showed up. Maybe try again? Or do you have AIM? I could sent it to you on there...

Really Bus? that's a shame. I don't have AIM, only ICQ, and I can get Yahoo Messenger. AIM is impossible though

Anyways, you CAN mail me the cover. The problem is that my mailbox gets filled with spam very very often, and I only have six megs of space. So if it bounces back, then there's too much spam. But try anyways. If we can't get it to work, we'll try something else

Hi Guys

All of the suggestions for the dvd cover site sound workable. HOWEVER - some of us (this means me) are computer illerate.. Remember all the trouble I had learning how to print the covers originally? My only request is that whatever decision is made as to the final site, it is simple to use and with very exact instructions.
FTP, File Sharing Utilities, Chat File Sharing, Usenet
These words scare me!
