What home?!?! He's living with mom and dad and sleeping with baby bro in a frickin' bunk bed!
Buying a gun for home protection before he buys his home is like buying gas for his new hybrid before he buys the car.

He's not gonna get it. Give up, guys. One day he will have a "Moment of Clarity" hit himself on the head and that will be it. Some people have miserable lives in high school and try to recreate them all the way up to, apparently, 25.

Sad thing is, this guy has less going for him than me and he has a GF!

She's either incredibly cool and loving, or she's got no self respect, for dating BUNKBED.

Wow. And still lost in all this is how he plans to help support what should be the most important thing in his life....his daughter. That $3000 he can produce at the drop of a hat would start a nice college fund for her.

Careful guys (and girls). Even though most people don't agree with LX, you shouldn't berrate him. I think this is going a bit too far.
LX: I hope you figure out what your priorities are and what they probably should be. Good luck.
Oh yeah...I'd lose in a car race.....but give me some time... I'm saving up...for a really big.....nest egg
(Ok...a house and a nice piece of land too)

You're right, I totally forgot about the "I want a handgun before I move out on my own."
In light of that thread, and this one, I have simply this to say: grow up. Forget the house, forget the bling-bling pimpin' hybrid, and forget the concealed handgun. Move out into an apartment and learn how to live on your own. I know you won't listen to me, but I just keep hoping you will.
Right now, you are the most irresponsible person I know, and I know some pretty irresponsible people. You might not have bills to worry about, but I don't see you stepping up to the plate and addressing the responsibilities that come with being a 25 year old divorced father of one. Period.
I fear what will happen if you do buy a house. You've never actually lived in a place you were repsonsible for paying the rent or mortgage on, or keeping clean or maintained. A home has all of these responsibilities -- and if you don't take care of them, you will see your "investment" rapidly become a liability.
I fear even more what will happen if you do buy a handgun. You don't have to take any classes, so I'm quite sure that you probably won't head out to the range, or ever learn how to properly use and care for your new "toy". I wrote a lot on this topic, but your cavalier attitude to responsibility coupled with a handgun is simply a disaster waiting to happen.
Right now, I think the best thing for you to do is to find a friend and get an apartment, and find out what living on your own is really about.

If we're not in a housing bubble and the prices continue to go up then you'll be in trouble trying to save up for a house while paying for a new car.
Where do you live? DO you actually need a car? What about public transportation? I live in NYC and don't have a car. If you really need a car I'd keep your present one. Or get a regualr civic and not a hybrid. It'll be cheaper in the long run when you factor in the interest paid on the loan.

Wow, this thread is starting to rival GuessWho's "In Love With My Boss" series.

What's wrong with your car right now? Is it costing you a ton on repair bills? My gf lives at home and she just bought a new car. But she is also an independent contractor and her car including the insurance is a tax write off. And her old car cost her $5K in repair bills in the last 6 months.

1) He's paying for it with CASH, then dropping another $3500 on the Integra engine. So, he's probably going to NOT spend $3000, but upwards of $7000....
[Other] But that's how much he wants to put down on his House
[/Other]2)He was preapproved for a loan for an $80K(I think) house 2 years ago.
[Other Forum] BUT that was BEFORE the divorce and child support![/Other Forum]
3)Lives in GA, doesn't actually NEED the car, he just wants to upgrade his current ricemobile for a new ricemobile. A regular Civic?
But then when the nice soccer mom pulls up next to him at the redlight he cant' blow her away.

and LX, I know this is going to fall on deaf ears....but...
Living on your own is really really a lot harder then you think it's going to be.
That laundry pile builds up fast, so do the dishes.
Bills after bills show up at your door.
You have a "good job" but with your love of cars, I can't see you budgeting yourself properly. You'll see your checking account has $2K in it, and go buy yourself the new super 19" rims and then the next day the property taxes will show up and you'll be S.O.L.
I love my mom and step dad to death. Really I do. But...
The greatest thing they ever did was force me to move out of the house and into my own place. I've done so much growing up in the last 10 months, I can't even begin to describe it.
All of a sudden, things like DVDs and my car don't mean near as much to me, but eating and getting my laundry clean means a whole lot. As does not having my phone or cable turned off...
My job has also become a #1 priority. As w/o that job, I'm basically ****ed beyond belief.
You need to grow up and just move out. Do you really need a house? Why? Do you know how much it costs to INITIALLY FURNISH a house? You're looking at probably 5K to 8K just to get stuff you need(I'm guessing at the total $$ amount). Lawnmower. Washer. Dryer. Fridge. Entertainment Center. Sofa. Chair. Dining Room Set. Dishwasher? Oh wait... , do you own your own TV?
Oh yeah,a ll of a sudden automobiel gas is very expensive.
JUST THINK ABOUT THIS!

I think he needs an apartment first. I hope to avoid getting a house for a long time to avoid property tax and such ilk. I also hate having to mow the lawn, bad memories of adolesence when I was forced to do so by Dad.
