The Greek, those are awesome! Where can I get a full size version of the Suberbit ver. 2 cover?

Great work Greek. I could use the first cover, let me know when you have available

JohnF14, do you have that 3rd Outbreak cover available to download anywhere??

Cosmic, you might take a look at sebastian's Idle Hands cover for ideas about a Hollow Man. He had to create a complete custom back & spine. It's available on his website under the "My Stuff" section www.myprivateparts.com also I think a black & white "shaded" look (like the poster is) with red lettering for Hollow Man would be good

Thanks for the tip, JJE. I just downloaded the Idle Hands cover now for some pointers. If anything, it has a bunch of the logos I need to make my custom look 'official'.

I finished up a rough version of Hollow Man a little while ago, but I'm not happy with the back. The section with the credits just looks sloppy (it's just an negetive image of the original, with some color editing), so I'll be scrapping it to start over.

Also, I still haven't solved my printer problem (see first page)... and I've developed another one where the little "movable catching fork things" seem to jam and make a racket. It's an JP Deskjet 842c... and it's still under warranty for another month, they'll replace it no questions asked... but I don't like to waste things, so if anyone has had this problem and fixed it, just let me know.

Fifth Element Covers

Well, the Full size coevers ended up being huge (around 8 megs). I'm trying to find a free webhost that has enough space, until then I can sned via AOL or Yahoo Messenger.

Bus, the front & spine look great. I agree about the back, any chance you can put the columbia "Special Edition" logo on the front? maybe make it red with black lettering.

Well, I spent this evening working on a new back for my Hollow Man cover, and this is the end result:

I used a cropped image of Caine crawling with the crowbar (the same pic that's on the right-hand side) with a ton of Gaussian blur; I also added some rather neat (IMO ) glow on the text. As usual, if anyone wants the full version, feel free to e-mail me.

And per request, a Special Edition version:

The Greek: That seems awfully large. Are they in JPG or TIFF format? A JPG cover at 300 dpi and 10.80 x 7.25 isn't typically over 2mb or so.

They are Jpegs at the highest quality level in Photoshop (12). I have to reduce the jpeg quality setting to an 8 to get them to come out around two megs?

I don't have the capability of creating covers (I just admire the hard work everyone does) but I noticed something while looking at Greek's superbit ver. 1 cover. Alot of people (including myself) have wanted slim covers for the Fox 5 Star collection. Couldn't someone use a silver or grey (or another color, maybe black or navy blue w/gold or yellow lettering) backdrop and just create a Fox 5 Star template? It might be to difficult, but i've seen people do amazing things with photoshop in these threads

Greek and Cosmic Bus, Excellent work!

Darthvong, your latest Halloween III cover looks great, but would it be possible for you to put together another cover identical to the original poster? The title was a shiny chrome color above the trick-or-treaters. It is one of my favorite posters from the series.

Actually I could do that very easily....Do you want the original back cover from the goodtimes DVD? If not I'll make one up from scratch.....

I've been thinking about attempting that, making a five star slim template....I have a few ideas how to do, but right now I'm swamped with custom work for people so it'll be awhile before I can get my hands dirty....

Did you get the Grumpy Old Men snapper scan from my link I posted yet?

Actually, does anyone know if the thin, tall font:

that's used for the credit listings on DVD sleeves is available for download someplace? I can see it coming in handy.
I have this font, or at least it's very close. If you want it let me know and I'll email it to you....
Nice work on those customs too...

All the 300 dpi covers I've seen and done are around 4-5 meg, with inserts typically being in the 2 meg neighborhood. Is that what you meant, perhaps? At any rate, 8 meg is quite big for a cover.

I find that if you make them bmps, then zip them, they become smaller... so maybe it's worth a try?

You guys are really going to thank me for this post. Everyone is always out looking for 8.5x14" Glossy Paper, and complaining about the cost. Well you are in luck. I have stumbled upon a promotion with HP, offering a FREE ROLL OF GLOSSY PAPER. The roll is 36" by 15' (36 inches by 15 feet). With this free roll, you can cut your own 8.5x14" slices for a nice, glossy finish to your DVD covers. You could probably get around 60 Covers with this roll. Be sure to fill out the form, as I don't know how much longer this offer is going on for.

Enjoy

EDIT: I forgot to mention this is only available to U.S. Residents. Sorry Canada!

I would think a bitmap would lose much of the color pallete and look significantly worse when printed...

I think a bitmap would make for a larger file size. Did you scan files correctly (if you scanned any at all).

DVD Cover Wishlist

Well, since I have been seeing so many request lists being posted, I'll just add mine to the choir! All of these are covers only, no inserts required.

2001 (Classic Collection Limited Edition DVD/CD soundtrack set, looking for double Amaray sized)
The Abyss: Special Edition (double Amaray sized)
Armageddon (Criterion edition, double Amaray sized)
The Art of War
Babylon 5 "In The Beginning/The Gathering"
Basic Instinct (regular or special edition)
Battlefield Earth
Big Trouble in Little China (double Amaray sized)
Caddyshack (regular or special edition)
Chill Factor
Cutthroat Island
Die Hard trilogy (5 Star Collection, each movie double Amaray sized)
Highlander: Immortal Edition (double Amaray sized)
Highlander: Endgame (double Amaray sized)
How the Ginch Stole Christmas (animated)
Independence Day (double Amaray sized)
The Lawnmower Man
Legend: Ultimate Edition (double Amaray sized)
Outland
Behind the Planet of the Apes (double Amaray sized)
Proof of Life
Pump up the Volume
Purple Rain
The Right Stuff
Space Jam
Speed (5 Star Collection, double Amaray sized)
Spies Like Us
Superman III
Superman IV
Tron (20th Anniverary Edition, double Amaray sized)
Universal Soldier
Young Guns II
Hail Columbia (IMAX)
The Dream Is Still Alive (IMAX)
Blue Planet (IMAX)
Destiny In Space (IMAX)
Mission To Mir (IMAX)
Depeche Mode: The Videos 86-98
Depeche Mode: One Night in Paris (double Amaray sized)
World's Greatest Rollercoaster Thrills
America's Greatest Rollercoaster Thrills 2
Madonna Music (DVD single)
South Park, Volume 1
Video Essentials
Ultimate DVD Platinum (double Amaray sized)
Hollywood Studios DVD Sampler, Volume 1
Dolby Digital Demo Disc

The ones that I have noted with "double Amaray sized" are the double Amaray cases that are the same thickness as a single DVD case ("flippy" as I like to call them).

If you know where I can get any of these covers, just email or PM me with the locations or the actual hi-res graphics.

Thanks Psychlowne for the tip on the HP glossy paper, ordered my roll as soon as I read it. Will definitely need it if I can get a hold of these covers!

I did some experimentation with the Neato DVD inserts today, the matte works out good considering that it costs half as much as the glossy that they sell. The problem is you have to use the MediaFace software that Neato sells to get it to print out right, since the paper is specifically sized and perforated. I think that regular glossy paper is probably the way to go.
