Sorry if im asking a stupid or repetive question , but is it worth it to get the Once upon a time in China 1,2,3 on dddhouse or should i order it from sam goody with my gift card. How are the spec compared to each movie, I really want to get this movie but my significant other likes to get the hong kong dvds usually. Is the American release for these movies spoken in Cantonese/mandarin? Please help me in chosing the right version of these movies

I have the US release of OUATIC 1 and the HK releases of OUATIC 2 and 3. The US release has a great transfer and great sound. It includes the original language and a special english version of the film, and there's also a commentary from Rik Meyer - HK film expert. The commentary is very interesting and informative (even though a bit geeky). The HK releases also feature nice transfers and sound, but I'd say the US release has them beat. Not enough to warrant an upgrade I don't think - but certainly get the US releases over the HK releases if you have neither. Plus - if you order the US releases - you can get them in a nifty box set. I may upgrade when part 5 is available on DVD so I can have them all. Then I'll sell my current first 3 on half.com.

Both, my friend.
Cantonese Mono
Mandarin Mono
English dub version of the film - mono as well I think.

Hey Yellow Hammer, do you know if the rumors of DDDHouse getting rid of the 10% discount are true?

I don't believe that DDDHouse ever did have an official 10% off policy. Johnny might have given 10% discounts to individuals as a one off, such as for goodwill on a future order, for really big orders, or to match a Hivizone sale as examples. Speaking for myself, I have received a 10% discount on some of my orders from DDDHouse but not always.

Hivizone is the place that has the official 10% discount for repeat customers. Perhaps that was what Rooster was referring to in the Asian DVD Guide forum?

Megastar has had a lot of news this week: 6 'new' older movies out:

"Mr Vampire II" starring Lam Ching Ying,
"Her Fatal Ways" starring Do Do Cheng Yue Ling,
"The Top Bet" starring Do Do Cheng Yue Ling,
"Zodiac Killers" starring Andy Lau, Cherry Chung,
"For Your Heart Only" starring Loletta Lee Lai Jan,
"Gunmen" starring Cheng Siu Chau, Tony Leung Ka Fai

all for $78HK.

Also, many of the most popular Megastar titles have also had their prices reduced by $45-60HK. Example new DDDHouse prices of selected Megastar titles (in HK dollars):

Long Arm of the Law I & II---$78
Royal Tramp I & II--$78
Police Story II/III--$130 (not sure why part I wasn't reduced, probably a typo since Hivizone does have it reduced)
Chinese Ghost Story I/II--$130
Chinese Ghost Story III - $146 (I suspect that this is also a typo)
Project A I/II--$130
Fist of Fury--$146
OUATIC I/II/III - $146
ABT I/II/III - $130
Miracles - $130

DVDShelf doesn't have part I reduced either. Maybe the typo is at Hivizone for reducing all three of them.

Regardless of any discount. I considered the two day shipping for large orders a "discount" per se.

I was thinking HiVi, as well.

Hmm. I'm confused. I got the Hivizone e-mail & originally took it to mean that every week they would offer different DVDs at a discount price similar to DDDHouse's sale. But actually all these discs had reductions & will stay at these prices? There's no rush to buy them? Will there really be new price reductions EVERY week? I may only buy $5.50 discs from now on...

Do ya'll think Mega Star will remaster or rerelease these films down the road? Maybe that's why their prices have been reduced? I would really like to get some of these but would hate to get them and then a few months down the road have a better edition out.

He doesn't know - he was asking... I doubt megastar would do this - to my knowlege, they don't do remasters and re-issues of DVDs they've put out unless there was a serious problem with the one they already put out that would require a recall... even then, I doubt they would do that.

Armour Of God 2: Operation Condor
Black Cat
Chinese Ghost Story 1
Mr. Vampire
Prodigal Son
Swordsman
Wheels on Meals

axolotls return - thanks, I didn't know that... still, you gotta admit that it's not their common practice.

Also - DDDHouse has the following titles back in stock (as of July 25th) in case anyone didn't know already and were hoping they would get some more back in stock.

MegaStar:

Swordsman
Spooky Encounters
Magnificent Butcher
Last Hurrah For Chivalry
Duel to the Death
Rouge
Naked Killers

Deltamac:

China Strike Force
Bichunmoo

Hey YH - if you spot any of these "pre-order" or pre-release info things - could you post them to This Thread as well? If you know of any release dates before they happen, this would be a good place to let everyone else know.

I'll add this one to my list for the next time I place an order.

some surprisingly good DVDs in this week's Weekly Cheap Sale. God of Gamblers II, Winners and Sinners, and Iceman Cometh are all pretty good movies.

Just thought of preventing the thread from vanishing and posting the new deals (I found out about them yesterday):
Full Throttle
Hail The Judge
A Beautiful New World
Beauty Of The Haunted House
Rumble Ages
