I realized CDNow is the only DVD store at BFL which ships to Europe, so I did play with their system a while (never used them before). Somewhere during checkout it said my order would be shipped from their European shipping center, is this really the case? Is it still packaged in USA and only distributed from Europe, i.e. value marked in dollars and sender address in USA? I'd like to get something for the xmas and avoid the customs

Some items ship directly from Europe although most that I have ordered come from the US.
Usually this relates to things that they would otherwise have sent across specially to the the States and so they cut out the unnecessary journey.
My experience is that such items have been sent from Holland. The postage is slightly less and you pay the Dutch VAT rate so no more to pay when arrriving in (my case) England.

Well, they used to have an Europen distribution centre but I think they closed that one. It doesn't matter for DVD's since those where only stored in the US DC anyway. Doesn't make sense to store Region 1 DVD's in an European DC, right?
I'm residing in The Netherlands and everything above $30 is intercepted by customs, whether marked as a gift or not.
