The Grindhouse Box and I would get myself the Sukiyaki Western Django Blu-ray.

Enjoy your trip.

Not really but since I am here I would like to pick up something fancy for others to lust over. Either some awesome US release or Region specific title.

Haven't seen the Grindhouse box yet, did see the Kill Bill sets and the original BTTF set, will keep looking. Already have Sukiyaki on DVD and it is not a rule breaker (only buy a movie every other format)

The Japanese cut of Sukiyaki is different than the US cut. It's 20+ minutes longer. You can google it.

If you're in Tokyo, go to Ishimaru Denki (Softkan#2) in Akihabara and all your dreams will come true...

Re: In Japan, Recommendations?

can you pick me up a bluray copy of 'Monsters Inc' and 'Ponyo by the Sea'

on a less sarcastic note, I've always wanted to own/see the original cut of 'Milo & Otis' which is longer, a little darker and even though it's not subtitled, I don't think the voice overs are critical to the overall enjoyment of the film, it's pretty obvious what's going on.

Having gone looking for dvds while in other countries (Europe, Asia, South America), I'd say enjoy your time there and don't waste it looking for dvds. You can find everything easier and cheaper online than you can in a physical store in foreign countries - heck, same thing with this country. If you have to buy stuff for someone, get them things that are tougher to find online.
