Well, a unit that plays BRs and DVDs from all regions, converts PAL to NTSC, and provides quality upconversion would certainly be the holy grail.
Meanwhile it's just too annoying trying to figure out what imported BR material will or won't play on my machine, in part or in full. I suppose I'll cancel my Red Desert BR pre-order and go with the R2 DVD.
I sat out the HD format war but now I'm really wishing it had gone the other way.

Ugh. Guess I'll order the R2 SD version... hopefully the transfer will be on par with the Blu-Ray.
Although I wonder if I should wait for an eventual Criterion release... any idea if they'd have the rights to this film?

I am confused here. This import is listed on Amazon.com (the U.S. site) as an All-Region Blu-ray. Is this a mistake?

In my opinion, the greatest decade for foreign-language films ever. And, of course, all of those films greatly influenced budding American directors, helping make the 1970s the greatest decade for American films ever (though the 1950s were pretty good as well).
