That sucks...but so did their prices. I would have used them A LOT more if they weren't so damn expensive! Still sucks balls. I hate seeing all these companies go out of business.

their prices were pretty reasonable considering they sold hard to get and foreign releases that would have cost 2 arms and a leg to import rather than just 1 arm.

Yep, I agree with this. I know I paid a couple of dollars more for my Sweeney Todd steelbook import, but the cost really wasn't anything to complain about considering how quickly I received the product, especially when you consider how long it would have taken had I imported.

I will say that there are some titles that are priced higher than what I want to pay, but then again, I purchased some stuff there that I wasn't really able to even find anywhere else.

Their prices were pretty reasonable considering you would get your orders the same week you ordered them.

Very sad indeed. Think I'm going to order some stuff I've always wanted.

The ol' "I need to do something with my life" thing eh... That sucks, both them closing and that phase of life altogether.

Exactly. I have to wonder how many businesses who have character, class, and excellent customer service such as Xploited, will go belly-up thanks to a government dragging their ass on helping the economy.

Damn. That really sucks.

I haven't bought as nearly as many foreign DVDs over the past several years, but when I did it was from Xploited. Might pay a little more, but their service was awesome and you were getting it from the US.

also another thing that probably hurts them is the fact that a lot of stuff is getting released in the US. And for the US releases its hard to compete with Deep discount or Amazon.

I bought quite a few titles from this site. Cheap bastard that I am, I initially balked at the high prices, but after experiencing Tony's superlative service, I didn't mind paying the extra bucks, especially after dealing with so many other overseas sites. My best to you; it seems there's no room for the good guys anymore.

For *most* UK stuff it's easier to get it directly from amazon - it's when you start looking at ordering an obscure UK dvd or two, but want to add a German DVD and/or Danish/Italian/Polish/Czech/etc film or anything else - being able to get them all in one place was a lifesaver without having to wade through multiple foreign sites hoping your self-translation was correct - only to find out that they didn't ship internationally or anything else. Especially with the option for media-mail shipping - there's no comparison.

The perfect place to pick up practically anything - built my Quatermass collection there and most of my spaghetti westerns and random horror came from here as well.

Just picked up the Katyn HD-DVD and a couple of the Koch Media Spaghetti Westerns I'd been wanting to get for a while. As much as I'd like to pick up the Japanese HD-DVDs of Machinist, Equilibrium and Reign of Fire though - just can't justify it at those prices.

BTW, I'd be interested to hear if anyone's watched the extended German HD-DVD of Crank that's listed there.

thats not 100% accurate. a majority of his blu ray dvds at least were ones that at my time of purchase not released yet in us and didnt have a release date for the us.

examples

Sweeney Todd steelbook (not available)
Trainspotting (not available)
Zodiac Directors cut (Not yet available)

But if those titles were available in the U.S., and they inevitably will be, they'd probably be cheaper at Deep Discount or Amazon, as the previous poster noted. Of course, if having titles like those first, or in special packaging is what counts, then I see the point.

Pandered masses will probably always "win", but the stuff that panders to them (and most of us here, really) is simply designed to have a broader audience and a longer shelf life, with the marketing muscle to ensure that. Doesn't make it less worthy in most cases. These niche distributors and retailers were great while they lasted, but the disc age is nearing its end, and "foreign" (depending on where one lives, of course) and fringe and cult titles will always, sadly, have smaller audiences, and with market saturation the way it's become, and DVD collections as large and unwieldy as they've become, and the time to watch all of it at a premium these days, I'm not surprised to see some of these places close shop. We'll see a lot of this stuff available for download-to-TV some day, but it will kinda suck to wait for it.

This is sad news. Despite the prices, I could always count on Xploited to have those odd titles from countries that I don't buy from that often and where I don't have a preferred seller like Amazon.uk.

Just last month I went to Xploited for a dvd from Japan and one from Germany. There just aren't that many sellers that make this possible. And of course, the quality of their customer service was always the highest.

I bought a few titles from Xploited over the years and have only good memories. Reasonable prices for imports and great customer service. I'm sad to see them go.

Not three weeks ago, Tony special ordered an OOP French Disc for me.

The best thing about Xploited--besides being able to find those non-UK discs without having to hunt (Spain is always a pain)--is Tony.

He also had a lot more varied titles than Diabolik, which seems to just do the exploitation (whereas Tony carried everything).

Just wish I had Blu-ray so I could clear him out of some of those great looking UK Blu-rays he's got listed.

Sad, sad day...
toddly6666's right. First Nicheflix, now Xploited... there's really nothing left.

I'll really miss raiding their table at conventions too. I'll echo everyone else and say their service was the best and it sucks they're not going to be around much longer. Gonna go watch my UK "Creepshow" DVD in tribute.

So what titles would you fans of arthouse cinema suggest one consider picking up from xploitedcinema immediately? I'm looking for suggestions that cannot be gotten easily from Amazon.uk/.fr/.de., like the Italian Raro release of the Andy Warhol boxset (which I have already), for example.

There are a number of good discs there: 1860 (2DVD), La Terra Trema, Saura's El Dorado, Rossellini's Il Generale Della Rovere LE (in fact if you have enough to spare I would pick all of the Minerva discs and RHV-Italia). I would also pick up En Cas de Malheur a.k.a Love is My Profession....

I'd suggest Bertolucci's Prima Della Rivoluzione -same company that put out La Terra Trema.

Since Criterion own the rights to this one, I'm holding out for a R1 release.

I highly doubt it they could better the transfer or the elaborate, English-friendly, extras.

Shame to see them go. I didn't buy from them often but when I did it was always a great experience, unlike many other online retailers. I was always willing to fork over a little more cash to get myself some hard to find product.
