Is the new Robin Hood series worth getting? I enjoyed the first 2 ep. that aired on BBC America and was wondering if I should just go ahead and get it instead of waiting for them to air.

Numanoid, you mentioned other Morris shows, surprised that you didn't mention Jam. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jam/dp/B0000...4360713&sr=1-1

And I'm shocked that Absolutely Fabulous is nowhere on any of these lists. For that matter, you could also add French & Saunders.

Also, I was a big fan of Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends. I know there are some releases of that on DVD in the UK.

Somehow I've missed that show entirely (though I have Blue Jam on audio)!

Thanks!

I feel so triumphant for recommending a show that passed under your radar. They actually use a lot of the audio from Blue Jam, which can add to the surreal quality of the show.

I would add:
Comedies
THE GOODIES (R2 or R4. The disc of LWT episodes hasn't been announced for R4 yet, though)
STEPTOE AND SON (R2/R4. Show that inspired "Sanford and Son." Only first few season on R4 for now)
TILL DEATH US DO PART (first two colour series are out on R1. First (only) is out in R1. Inspired "All in the Family")
UP POMPEII (R2, as part of the Frankie Howerd Collection)
MAN ABOUT THE HOUSE (R2/R4. Show that inspired "Three's Company." Only R4 discs are first two series)
GEORGE AND MILDRED (R2. Show that inspired "The Ropers." Only R4 discs are first two series)
FAWLTY TOWERS (all regions)
'ALLO 'ALLO (R1/2. If you like David Croft/Jeremy Lloyd's stuff, like Are You Being Served, you'll love this. I'd opt for the R1s: more extras, and no annoying on-screen episode title captions that weren't on the original versions. Also, series 6 is only available on R1 for now)
ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES (R1/R2. Tricky, this: both regions have edits/music substitutions, picture quality issues, etc. and all these issues are not necessarily on the same episodes region-to-region. The only truly "uncut, untampered" ones I've heard of are the "partwork/subscription+magazine" versions available, at a premium, in the UK)

A funny look at the news
HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU (R2, highlights DVDs, though some have a few complete episodes on)

Dramas
DOC MARTIN (R2 and R4. More a comedy/drama)
FOOTBALLERS WIVES (entire lot is out in R2/R4, first three series in R1. First three R2s have good extras that are not in the US sets)
HEX (R2. An R1 is coming, but be careful: the US-TV broadcasts has a lot of music substitutions, as well as edits)
DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS (R2. The BBC-tv version, NOT the horrible feature film)
HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR (R1/2/4. The R2/R4 has a remastered picture, the R1 does not. Although identical, the R4 is much cheaper than the R2)

How do you people keep leaving this off your lists?!

Chef R1 (Amazon.com)

I started watching Hex on BBCA last year, but heard on here that it wasn't the best (downhill) and that it never really ended, but was canned. However, with the recent announcement of the R1 release I'll aslo be sure to pick it up off of Netflix should they carry it.

R1 is also getting the new Robin Hood series soon after it airs. I watched the first ep, but figured I'd be better waiting for the entire series at once.

I also recommend Spooks (or MI-5 in US). Currently 4 series are in R1 on DVD. Series 5 has aired in UK; believe 6 is confirmed. US probably will not see S5 until early 2008.

ONLY FOOLS & HORSES (David Jason, Nicholas Lyndhurst.
All series available R1)

OPEN ALL HOURS (Ronnie Barker & David Jason)

THE PIGLET FILES (Nicholas Lyndhurst. All series available R1, is there a S4?)

SMACK THE PONY ("Best Of" DVD only)

THE SMOKING ROOM (Robert Webb "Peep Show")

SPACED (Simon Pegg) How could you leave this one off?

Ooops! Sorry 'bout that. I should have known it was too obvious an omission. Guess I was distracted by the mention of TORCHWOOD.

Speaking of Simon Pegg, wish there was an upcoming DVD release of HIPPIES.

(or did it already come out and immediately go out of print, like some series seem to do?)

Don't forget "Blake's 7" excellent British scifi...

Available in R2, in season boxes (4), or an Amazon exclusive complete collection.

There is also the "Quatermass" set in R1.

High Spirits With Shirley Ghostman is one of my personal favs. Don't think I saw Dennis Pennis mentioned either.

Hustle, Wire in the Blood, Cracker & Messiah are all highly recommended.

I Am Not an Animal.....

and People Like Us.
