dvd comaptibility worldwide

Hi,

Completely ignorant of DVD's compatibility worldwide. If I bring a homemade/professional recording on DVD to India or New Zealand, will it work?

How about vice versa? Thanks!

The US and Japan use the NTSC system for regular TV, DVDs included, while most other people use the PAL system. A disc made on one won't play on the other unless the DVD player and the TV are designed to handle most formats. Equipment that will handle both is common overseas but not in the US.
