Need some help in Czech and Slovak.
I'm looking to buy Román pro ženy at one of the these stores.
HIL-DVD
DVD Best
The price comes out roughly the same but I have a couple of questions before I make my purchase. I however do not speak Czech or Slovak and neither store has answered my emails yet so I'm finding it a bit difficult to get the answers I'm looking for. So if anybody can either read the info on the site or simply already knows the answers to following questions, I'd be incredibly grateful to them.
1. HIL-DVD says, "We are selling only legal DVD and VHS!" What about DVD Best? Are all of their DVDs actual, legal releases? The help page is only in Slovak and won't translate to English even when the English option is selected. At least it won't for me.
2. Any idea how long the shipping time usually is at DVD Best. I live in Denver, CO. I believe Pro-B once said it took about a week from HIL-DVD to get to Chicago.
3. Both sites say the audio is in Czech 5.1 but then they each say:
- "český dabing i titulky" on HIL-DVD
- "český dabing aj titulky" on DVD Best
What exactly is that referring to? Is it just restating that it has Czech sound and subtitles so the Czech audience will know they'll be able to understand the movie? Every DVD I've looked at on both sites has that listed as well. Its throwing me off a bit.
4. Is the DVD Best version in widescreen?
5. Does the HIL-DVD version have the special features?
I know that's a lot to ask but if anyone can help with any of it, thank you.

Here's a quick summary:
-Both DVD's (on both of those sites) are identical! The film is presented in its original aspect ratio and it is 16/9 anamorphically enhanced. Yes, DVDBest's version is in widescreen.
-"český dabing i titulky" translates in "our"...original Czech audio and Czech subtitles.
- DVDBest are legit vendors.
-I have not used DVDBest so I can not give them my "stamp of approval" (lol) however I've used HIL more than once and their parcels come to Chicago for about a week (the longest I had to wait was 8 days). Let's assume that since Chicago is a major international hub you will get your package in Denver in less than 10 days.
-The DVD does offer French, Czech, and English subs.
Last but not least Czech girls are better looking than Slovak girls so you should go with the Czech vendor (which I endorse). There you go, I said it!

Well alright. Thanks very much. I guess I'll go ahead and order from HIL since you do know what you're talking about. At least that has been the impression I've received. If not, good job of fakin' it.
And its something like 12 cents cheaper than DVD Best. Talk about savings! Heh heh.
That's a bold statement about Czech girls though. Well I do love them, perhaps a bit too much, just take a look at the star of the aforementioned movie. A very lovely Slovak girl. Czech girls are great though. And not that we were saying anything about Hungary but Hungarian girls would definately be in the running as well. Pretty much the whole of Eastern Europe. Alright; I guess that's the end of that little rant.

LOL. Thanks for the help though. You were more helpful than the stores themselves. Seems to be a running trend with me and Eastern European webstores. First Filmsarok, now these ones.
On a slightly different topic, do you by chance know where I can find the 2 disc version of Argo? Filmsarok only has the single disc and Numero7 doesn't have it at all. I've seen it on a couple of the other stores that don't ship to America but that is clearly of no help to me.

I was recently recommended a good Hungarian vendor whose site is in English where one can order Hungarian goods using VISA/MC (Paypal). I was however a bit hesitant in posting the news here as i thought that the prices were rather high (frankly higher than what you would pay using Filmsarok and their Western Union option). Regardless, this Hungarian vendor DOES SHIP worldwide and more importantly (for many of the frustrated US members here) you could use your credit card on their site. They also specialize in hard to find or OOP Hungarian DVD/CD/Books. You could find Argo (2DVD) here, Kontroll (2DVD), and just about all of the other Hungarian DVDs that are so rare in the US. You could navigate the site in English, German, or Hungarian.
Last but not least the good news here is that these fokls will substract the VAT which is included in the prices currently shown on their site. Here's the link to the 2DVD Argo set:
http://www.hungarian-books.com/produ...RGO-DVD-2.html
This being said I have not used them (And from what I understand much of the stock comes from Germany) and can only provide the information that I was given above.

Thanks. The prices are a bit high though. You weren't kidding about that. I might just email Numero7 or Filmsarok and see if its even remotely possible to special order it or something. Man, I really need to make friends with someone in Hungary. That would make things so much easier. Oh well.

I placed my order with HIL last night. Had a hell of a time with it. Didn't help when everything came up strictly in Czech. But everything is alright with it now. And now we shall see how long it takes.

Not loving the service with HIL. Tomorrow it will be 3 weeks ago that I placed the order and 1 week ago that I sent them an email asking about it. Needless to say I have not recieved either my DVD or a reply to my email. I assume that this is not customary considering you, Pro B, said that the longest you had to wait was 8 days. Damn shame. After I had the problem with ordering, they were very helpful and replied to my emails in, at most, a half an hour. Drastic change in service I'd say.

This is rather unusual to say the least as I have had nothing but great experience(s) with them (please understand that I am not promoting them in vain, nor do I work for them, I truly believe that they run a great business). Give them another week or so it is very likely that the delay is not on their end (when the parcel comes to your house check the entry date to see when did the DVD enter the US).
It is international mail after all and you never know what Big Brother does with it these days. I am sorry my recommendation caused you so much trouble.
(This being said I will be placing another order with them towards the end of the month for 2 old films from their Zlata Kolekce a.k.a the Czech Gold Archive series).

I'm not blaming you. As I've said before, you know what you're talking about. And it is true that you never know what's going on with customs and what not. I just wish they'd respond to my email so I can know that it either is or isn't their fault.

Well they finally answered me. Apparently I should have the DVD in 5-7 days. They danced around my questions of why it took so long and what the problem was. But yeah, I should at least be getting the movie finally.

The DVD finally arrived in the mail yesterday, exactly 1 month after ordering it. So at least I didn't have to try to get a refund from the Czech Republic but I think I'll only be using them as a last resort from now on. Wouldn't have bothered me nearly as much if they had no just decided to ignore my questions about why it took so long and what the problem was. Oh well.
