The Miklos Jancsò Collection
For those interested in the work of Hungarian director Miklos Jancso (I would think that would be those who already picked up The Red and the White) French distribs Clavis Films are releasing a massive boxset on April 15th. All DVDs feature optional English and French subtitles. Cover work below:

I will have a review of the UK The Red and the White shortly sold here:

Pro-B, if you hear any word on the quality of these discs, be sure to let us know. I haven't yet picked up Second Run's R2 edition, though I was meaning to later this month. But I'm sorely tempted to get this boxset instead. I've heard very good things about My Way Home (at least, I assume that's "Mon Chemin" -- my French is atrocious).

FWIW, according to ClavisFilms, Les Sans Espoir and Rouges et Blancs will be packaged together with Cantate and released as 2nd box set.

A quick follow-up based on two pieces of information gleaned from the Criterion Forum, where there are threads dedicated to Second Run and where a representative from Second Run frequently posts:
1.) As pointed out by Pro-B, all the Clavis discs do contain English subtitles. (Still no word on overall quality, though.)
2.) Second Run will be releasing both "My Way Home" and "The Round-Up" by the end of 2006. (No mention of "Silence and Cry" or "Red Psalm" yet.)
The Second Run discs will almost certainly be cheaper than the Clavis discs (especially if you know where to shop), so some buyers may want to wait a few months.

I am yet to receive the set but last night finished watching the Uk disc of The Red and the White and the quality is very upsetting. Considering the fact the there might have been some serious issues with the print elements the actual transfer is still quite poor: there are long visible areas of "ghosting", plenty of damage and specs (even large burns), flickering, etc.
I will have a full review before the end of the week (UK disc).

My review for the entire boxset should be up any moment now. I should have done it earlier but there were so many titles that came at once.
